Dear Mrs. Thornton and Family:
Please accept the sincere condolences of the staff and students of the US Navy Japanese/Oriental Language School Archival Project at the Archives, University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries. Dr. Thornton had been an active and enthusiastic supporter of our program. He had donated papers that are in our holdings and had contributed stories to our newsletter, THE INTERPRETER. We will pass this news to the readership of our newsletter. Please let us know if we can be of assistance.

I met Mr. Thornton a few years back under not so favorable circumstances. Still he took time to speak to me concerning his hobbies. He was truly a gentleman.
