Nancy Carolyn Modeen

Nancy Carolyn Modeen, 92, of Sun City, died peacefully Wednesday, March 18, 2026, of

complications following a fall.

She was born to the late Ewood and Edith Thalman, August 28, 1933, in La Mesa, New Mexico.

After growing up in Gallup, she pursued a nursing degree at the University of Colorado. She

married Glenn Modeen in 1957, and they lived together for 63 years until his death, first in Denver,

Colorado, and then in Sun City, Arizona.

Nursing was a rewarding profession for her as she practiced in hospitals, schools, and nursing

homes. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, cross country skiing, and especially bird

watching. She was actively committed to social justice, notably through her involvement in the

National Organization for Women and Grandmothers for Peace. She was also an active member of

the Church of the Palms and the Royal Oaks community. She brought joy to many lives through her

piano playing, accompanying weekly sing-alongs at Royal Oaks as well as for adults with

disabilities with Benevilla for over 25 years. Her service, kindness and sense of humor touched

many lives.

A devoted and beloved mother and grandmother, Carolyn is survived by two children: Ann King of

Malakoff, France, and Joan Neff of Rifle, Colorado. She is also survived by two grandchildren,

Sean King and Lisa King.
