Scott Elam Obituary

Scott Howard Elam MATTHEWS - Mr. Scott Howard Elam, 53, of Matthews, passed away on July 3, 2015, at Carolinas Medical Center, after a courageous two-month battle following complications from routine heart surgery. Scott was born on February 26, 1962, in Charlotte. He was a loving husband, father, son and friend to all and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. According to Scott, "he was the nicest man you would ever want to meet," and he was. He never met a stranger, had friends from all generations and loved everyone. Scott enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, working in his yard and watching, playing and coaching baseball. He is survived by his wife Anita Elam, daughter Brooke Elam, parents William and Bobbie Elam, brother Joseph Elam, mother-in-law Esther Schreifer (Daniel), brother-in-law Michael Miele (Lisa), and numerous other family members and friends. Anita and Brooke miss Scott greatly, but are comforted that he was reunited in Heaven with his beloved son Brandon Elam. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents William and Rubal Elam, maternal grandparents Leonard and Addie Starnes and by his father-in-law Dale Miele. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015, from 6PM until 8PM at Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel. Funeral services in celebration of his life will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015, at 2:00PM, at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel. An online guestbook is available at www.heritagecares.com.

Scott was my supervisor when I joined the SellEthics team in January 2002. He was a "hoot" to work for. I'ld call him and say "Go Titans" and he would just laugh and say hello Yvonne. From that moment on, I've loved Scott--what a wonderful person. I'm so thankful God sent him into my life. I love you Scott, and I'll see you on the other side.

Scott and I met in the 5th grade, at Double Oaks Elementary in Charlotte, and reconnected at Garinger High School, specifically in Radio Broadcasting Class. We spent two years of our lives learning the technical intricacies of the business, the nuances of proper diction and elocution, as well every word to The Sugar Hill Gang's Rapper's Delight. Once we graduated from High School, our lives took us on our vectors, then I would see Scott only occasionally in Mint Hill, where we would chat and get caught up, but then our lives would intervene and we would part, promising each other that we would spend more time together, but there would be great periods of time between our conversations. I've learned now that I will not have that opportunity again in this life.

My heart is heavy, and my deepest, deepest condolences go to his family. Scott is an extraordinary man, and has been a pivotal part of my life, and he will always be a strong example of how to live an intentional life. God Speed, mon frere.

I grew up across the street from Scott and his family. Even though Scott was older he found time to hang out with a little boy. As I got older, he never changed and always had a good word to say and helpful advice. He will truly be missed. Condolences to the family.

I am so very saddened to hear of Scott's passing. We went to high school together. Several friends had shared his journey with me. He is with angels and Brandon now, free of pain. Words cannot express all the comfort for the sadness we feel here on this earth. So, here is "Strength for today, and HOPE for tomorrow" with this journey your journey to move forward. Love and Hugs with deepest sympathy.
