Sgt. Kirkley Obituary

Sgt. James Kirkley MONROE - Sergeant James Kirkley, Deputy with the Union County Sheriff's Office, age 45, of Monroe, North Carolina, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday morning (November 2, 2012) surrounded by his loving family at his residence, after fighting a long and courageous battle. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM Monday evening (November 5, 2012) at Unionville Baptist Church, 510 Baucom Rd., Monroe, NC 28110. A Funeral Service to celebrate the life of James Kirkley will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday (November 6, 2012) at Unionville Baptist Church, officiated by Preacher Hank Parker, Reverend Dac Croasmun, and Reverend Jack Hildreth. Entombment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park Mausoleum with full Law Enforcement Honors and Masonic Rites. James began his career with the Union County Sheriff's Office as a Detention Officer in August of 1988. Soon after this, he completed BLET (Basic Law Enforcement Training) and was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff. James held many assignments during his career and was well known for his excellent service in each one. He held positions in the Jail as well as Patrol Division, School Resource Officer, Community Deputy, Civil Bureau, and Court Security. He obtained both his Intermediate Law Enforcement Certification and Advanced Law Enforcement Certification and was promoted to Corporal in 2001. James was later promoted to Sergeant in 2008. He was loved and respected by the many officers that served with him. James loved baseball, camping and spending time with his family. He was a dedicated Duke Blue Devils Fan. James was born on August 13, 1967, in Monroe, North Carolina, the son of James Kirkley, Sr. and Brenda G. Kirkley. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Robin; his daughter Miranda; son Nick; and grandson Maddox. James is also survived by his loving family, Robert and Jeane Moore, Mac Helms, Teri and Rick Bunch, Scott and Melissa Moore, Patricia Godwin, Andi and Tommy Knowles, Robin and Joe Flynn, Dennis and Delores Sistare, and many wonderful nieces and nephews that he loved very much. The family would like the Union County Sheriff's Office to know how incredibly important your love and support have been throughout James' illness. James, in all the months of trying, I only served more papers than you one time. When it came to warrant service, you were like a spaniel tracking quail. You flushed them every time. I will always remember that. Fly safe my friend.
