Steven Radoff

Dr. Steven Barry Radoff CHARLOTTE - Dr. Steven Barry Radoff, 74, of Sparta, NC and Charlotte, NC, died unexpectedly, yet peacefully, at his Sparta, NC residence on July 26, 2015. Born October 25, 1940 in New York City, he was the son of the late William Radoff and Margaret Loss Radoff. Steven attended public schools in Manhattan and the Bronx. He received his Bachelors Degree from Columbia University, a Masters of Science Degree from the College of Pharmacy in Columbia University, and a Ph.D. from New York Medical College, Chemistry Department. He spent many years as a biochemist at several companies and universities and was a professor and researcher at Rockefeller University and Hospital. His primary research was on diabetes and aging. Steven was well known for his quirky and rapid-fire sense of humor. He was a master story-teller and regaled many people with his hilarious but totally true stories. He was also well-known for his generosity. Steven truly gave new meaning to the saying, "He'd give you the shirt off his back." He did everything in his power to help anyone in need. He loved nature and was a life-long enthusiastic camper and back-packer. He recently returned from a camping trip in the Adirondacks. He also loved kayaking, swimming, and snorkeling. Steven was definitely a master chef. He loved to cook gourmet meals, especially for his family. Another passion of his was traveling. In recent years he traveled to Costa Rica, Alaska, Scandinavia, Ireland, Brazil, Australia, and Greece. He was an expert in the martial arts, having several black belts. Tai chi on the beach was one of his favorites! Steven is survived by his wife, Laura Ann Travis Radoff; his step-children, Laurie Thompson, Marcia Hardenbrook, Tommy Stevens and wife Ann, Scott Stevens and wife Christine, and11 grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Diana Travis and her wife, MaryAnn Mueller; his brother, Jac Radoff; and his beloved cousins, Jonathan Strasser, Judy Panos, Michael Loss, Harold Loss, Joan Levin, Barry Loss, Barbara Breitman and their families. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. August 14th, at Sharon Gardens in ValHalla, NY, with Rabbi Harold Loss officiating. Music will be provided by NY conductor and violinist, Jonathan Strasser. There will also be a private celebration of Steven's life in Charlotte.
