Dearest Smith Family,
We are deeply saddened to hear of Susan's passing from this earth. Cathy was in South Carolina during this time preparing for her uncle's passing on January 2nd also, so was unable to attend Susan's memorial. We have always loved the Smith family and seldom think of all the loving, good times we have had with you all. May God give you much comfort and peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all!

I have known Susan and her family my whole life. She was truly a beautiful person inside and out. She was brought up with a very loyal and loving family and a loving church family. She always had a smile for everyone. To Matthew, James, and the family, I pray that your friends and family will give each of you the comfort, love, and support you will need and that God will give you each strength and faith to get through this very difficult time. She will be forever missed in so many lives.

Susan's niece, Ashley, and I were best friends in High School, and College. Aunt Susan was so beautiful, and always so fun to be around. My sister, Katie and I, absolutely adored Aunt Susan. She had a special sparkle about her, and everyone could see her love for life and her son, Matthew. My heart goes out to Matthew, and Uncle James, as well as the entire Smith Family. My parents, Jon & Regina Hale, wanted me pass along their condolences as well. We are love you guys, and are praying for you!

I worked with Susan at Stanley Lab for six years. She had a real zest for life. I can picture her talking about her son, Matthew, her face beaming with love and pride and saying, "That's my little man". She will be missed.

I graduated with Susan and can remember her bright smile and cheering very loud for the Colts. I would just like to say to the family that may tender memories soften your grief, may fond recollections bring you relief, and may you find comfort and peace in the thought of the joy that knowing your loved one brought. My deepest heartfelt sympathy to the family of Susan Smith Hoover. I knew Susan from the Cape Fear High School cheerleading squad. She graduated one year ahead of me with my brother, but I have fond memories of her from cheering on the varsity cheerleading squad. She was short and tiny and I was always a base on the bottom of the pyramid, so I lifted her up often, without dropping her :o ) Her smile was contagious as well as her quick but quiet whit. She was well known and loved during our years at Cape Fear. May God bless and keep her family during this time.

I grew up going to school with Susan, having met at Sunnyside Elementary. We manuerved the antics and trials of "Stedman Junior High" and remained great friends through our days at Cape Fear High. Although not related, our same last name of Smith, secured our spots in the same homeroom each year. I have fond memories of shared times with Susan including sleepovers, decorating homecoming floats, going to the local hangout, "Burger King", and beauty pageants. Susan was a dedicated and true friend and I will always remember being uplifted by her beautiful warm smile, words of encouragement, and fun sense of humor. My heartfelt prayers go out to Matthew and James, as well as to the extended family. Most Sincerely, Gretchen Smith Zollinger
