Sylvia Watson
February 26, 1940 - October 10, 2011
HOLLY SPRINGS -- Sylvia Watson, 71, passed away Monday at Duke Raleigh Hospital. A native of Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late James Keller Peck and Ruth Elizabeth Brantley Peck. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Duke University in 1962. She was passionate about her children and her grandchildren and her career in education, which included serving as an English teacher, a Guidance Counselor and in Administration in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools. Sylvia and her husband of 49 years, Vernon Watson, shared a love of classical music, orchestral music and opera. Together they traveled Europe, Peru, Canada and the United States, especially the National Parks.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 1:00 pm at Aversboro Road Baptist Church, Garner. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughter, Nancy Capps and husband, Rusty of Garner and son, Jon Watson and wife, Jennifer of Peachtree City, GA.; brother, Dr. Robert Peck and wife, Kathy of Greenville, NC; her grandchildren, Jamie, Rachel, Rebecca, Abbie, Jesse, Lydia and John David Capps and Jack Watson. She was preceded in death by a sister, Abbie Whitley.
Sylvia was a founding member of the Holly Springs Food Cupboard and in her memory, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Holly Springs Food Cupboard, P. O. Box 268, Holly Springs, NC 27540.

Many classmates of Winecoff High School are so sorry to hear about this. Sylvia Watson was a much loved teacher for us. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family. With Love, Class of 1965

Vernon - I just heard about Sylvia. My heart goes out to you and your family. Sylvia was a very special person and I have fond memories of her from Memorial. She was a wonderful Sunday school teacher and friend. May God and your memories comfort you now and in the days to come. I'll be praying for you.

Vernon, Sylvia was like a sister to me growing up in the Rocky Ridge Community and Church I am so thankful we re-connected at our 50th and were able to visit soon afterward. I thank God for her life and pray for your comfort and strength. God Bless, Patricia and Chuck
