Walter Robinson Obituary

Walter Robinson, III "Robbie" CONCORD - Mr. Walter "Robbie" Leonard Robinson, III, age 63, passed away peacefully Monday, February 23, 2015, at Tucker Hospice House. A service celebrating his life will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Sharon United Methodist Church, 4411 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC 28211 Rev. Nancy Miller-Campbell will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service at the church. Robbie as he was known to family and friends was born January 29, 1952 in Fulton County, GA to Mrs. Bobbie Jo Proctor Robinson of Charlotte and the late Walter L. Robinson, Jr. He was a 1970 graduate of South Mecklenburg High School and attended Wingate University. He worked for many years at Carolina's Auto Supply Company before joining the family business at Providence Hardware and working there until his dad's retirement in 2003. He then went to work at Blackhawk Hardware, where he was employed until his diagnosis in November 2014. Robbie knew people everywhere from his experiences at NASCAR races, the Charlotte Checkers hockey games and his hangouts. The Double Door Inn was always his favorite place to listen to music. He was also a 3rd Degree Mason with Phalanx Lodge in Charlotte. Robbie lived in Charlotte his whole life until 2012, when he and his wife bought a historic home in Concord. He always loved old houses and it was, a dream come true for him when they moved. In addition to his mother, surviving Robbie are his loving wife of 17 years, Millie Burchett Robinson; daughter, Melanie R. Trapp and husband, Edward of Holden Beach, NC; granddaughters, Ashley and Amanda Trapp of Holden Beach; sister, Ginger Robinson of Matthews; brother, Brian Robinson and wife, Pam of Appomattox, VA; four nieces, two nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends. The family wishes to thank all the caring and loving CMC-NE doctors and nurses for helping Robbie through this difficult time. The Tucker Hospice House saw him to his journey to Heaven. Millie wants to thank the loving congregation at Central United Methodist Church in Concord and the lifelong, thoughtful friends at Sharon United Methodist Church in Charlotte for all the support and prayers for the family during this time. We especially send our appreciation to the dear Blackhawk Hardware family who has been so supportive and kind through this ordeal. You are all angels and we love you. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to St. Jude Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 or to Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565. Millie, I was saddened to see your husband's obituary. I am on the same path, also losing my husband to cancer. I share your sorrow.

Robbie was, among other things, a gearhead's "gearhead." He was the Robinson Encyclopedia of auto and motorsports knowledge. He also was pretty sharp on all things hardware and he always was probably the most helpful person in Charlotte. Robbie was a rare treasure, much like his Dad before him.

Robbie was a dear friend my husband, long before I came along. He may have been the most dependable friend we ever had. He towed our race cars to Daytona and back during the night, so we could race in SCCA sanctioned events, without missing work. What a wonderful man! RIP

I just heard about Robbie today I can't find the right words to express what wonderful person he was . I will always remember the gang from Carolina's Friday night dinners talking about Nascar just having a good time . I know he's talking with Mark and Donnie about the old times ....thank you Robbie for helping me not to forget them . Rest in peace my friend . Richard Moore
