I was fortunate enough to have served on the Board of Directors of Branch Banking and Trust alongside Rennie when he was Senior Vice President. As a Senior Vice President at National Welders Supply Company, I was pretty green when it came to the nuances in banking and Rennie was a wonderful mentor. He was always available to answer complex questions and he was a genuinely nice man. Rennie was a treasure ... he will be missed!

Carol, Ellen, Bill, and Tom,
I just saw Rennie's obituary in the paper today. I am so sorry to hear this sad news. I wish I had seen the obit earlier so I could have seen all of you in person at the visitation last Friday.
Your Dad was one of the best. He had a unique sense of humor and I always enjoyed running in to him at various places around town over the years. He was always the gentleman and I will miss him. It was an honor to know him. I am so sorry I could not relay my condolences in person last week.
I hope to see each of you soon.

Rennie graciously welcomed me to the legal community 45+ years ago and his mentoring of me as a young lawyer was like no other. His gracious, extraordinary service to our community, his authentic faith and service to his church, and his constant love and support of family and friends was an true gift to us all.

We will always remember good times shared with Rennie, Harriet and all the children growing up at Church and in school during special times shared together over many, many years. There was always an abundance of laughter, togetherness, sharing and love. Treasured memories of Rennie and his family will remain with us forever. Please accept our sincere condolences. Rennie Cuthbertson was a Charlotte leader. He would never accept personal awards. What he did - he did for others. A gentleman of the highest order. Thank you Rennie for your legacy of kindness. God speed.

When I served as Minister of Education at First Methodist Church in the mid 1960s Rennie was supportive of the Education Program at the church, as well as many other things. I had also been banking with City National Bank for many years even before that and Rennie and his dad were very helpful to me when I financed the purchase of a boat. I was delighted to get to see him once again while I was serving as Associate Minister at Myers Park UMC. He was still his caring self, and I trust that his surviving family members can rejoice in that, and in the comfort of a loving God!

I served as Minister of Music 1996-2001 at First Methodist Charlotte where Rennie was a faithful member. We served together on many different committees. He loved his Lord and church. He brought clarity to every meeting he was the most respected man in the church. He was always supportive of the music ministry.
