Desma Chastain Obituary
She was born in Cherokee County, N.C., to the late Fred and Dora Allen Murphy.
Desma enjoyed painting, fishing and flowers. She was a member of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Chastain; and brothers, Swinson Murphy, Wallace Murphy and Arvil Murphy.
Surviving are sons, Derrell Chastain and Bruce Chastain; sisters, Reba Fowler, Carmel Worley and Loretta Herd; grandchildren, Terri Chastain and Misty Chastain Longieliere; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at New Martins Creek Baptist Church, with services conducted by Hoyt Brown. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Herd, Eric Crisp, Joseph Chastain, Larry Sosebee, Travis Chastain and Trampas Crisp.
The family received friends from noon-2 p.m. at New Martins Creek Baptist Church prior to the services.
Townson-Rose Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
