James Matheny Obituary

March 17, 1940 – Oct. 18, 2024
James Martin Matheny, 84, of Murphy, N.C., passed away on Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, surrounded by family, at his home.
James was born March 17, 1940, in Palatka, Fla., to John Matheny and Henrietta McElroy.
James was preceded in death by his father, John Matheny; mother, Henrietta McElroy; brother, Jerold Matheny; and grandchild, James Dylan Bradshaw.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Matheny; son, James (Monique) Matheny III; daughter, Tonna Matheny; son, Shane Matheny; brother, John (Cathy) Matheny; grandchildren, James Matheny IV, Garrett (Melissa) Matheny, Bradley (Lisa) Matheny, Tristen Matheny, and Ashley (Tommy) Adams; honorary grandchildren, Kayla Harris and B.J. Smallwood; five great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.
James served in the United States Marine Corps. James retired as a diesel mechanic from Southern Concrete Materials.
The graveside service, was held at noon on Tuesday Oct. 22, at Grape Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Murphy, with the Rev. Charles Litzell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests to make donations to Grape Creek Cemetery Fund.
