Karey Sneed fought a hard battle but won the war and is sitting at the feet of Jesus. She passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Karey was a member of Ranger Baptist Church in Murphy and very active until she fell ill in January 2020.
Karey was born and raised in Tampa, Fla., but lived in Murphy, N.C., since 1996. Soon after moving here, she met her loving and supporting husband, Eric Sneed.
She loved to share the story of how they met while shopping separately at Walmart. Upon passing him in the aisle, she fell in love with his blue eyes and smile at first sight. They dated for eight years before deciding it was time to settle down. Karey always said they enjoyed that time together to travel and learn about each other, so when they were ready to marry, they were ready to start a family. God blessed them with a beautiful baby girl, Gracey Sneed, two years later.
Karey worked at Macon Bank, name changed to Entegra Bank, then merged into First Citizens Bank all in Murphy for 20 years. Those ladies began as friends then fast became family.
Karey loved spending time with friends and family, especially when the great-nephews and nieces started arriving.
Karey is the daughter of the late Wayne Gracey.
In addition to Eric and Gracey, Karey is survived by her supportive family, which includes her mom, Kathy Gracey of Murphy; sister, Teressa Hallmark and husband Randy of Blue Ridge, Ga.; brother, Allen Gracey Jr. and wife Tonya of Brentwood, Tenn.; three nephews, Justin Parrish and wife Amelia, Loganville, Ga., Cameron Gracey, Atlanta, Ga., and Jake Collins and wife Alyssa, Plymouth, Mich.; three nieces, Erin Scurry and husband Alex, Talking Rock, Ga., Katie Dixon and husband Nick Columbia, Tenn., and Lauren Ray and husband Timmy, Canton, Mich.; three great-nephews, Theo Scurry, Leland Parrish and Brantlee Ray, all of their home; eight great-nieces, Alaina Scurry, Vivian Scurry, Maudie Scurry, Elsie Parrish, Finley Parrish, Lottie Rae Parrish, Kinslee Ray and Lily Dixon, all of their home; mother-in-law, Dennie Stearns, Murphy; and many loving aunts and uncles.
She was surrounded by friends and blessed beyond measure.
One of her favorite statements she has heard on this journey has been: "The bigger the battle the better the blessing." Karey wanted her legacy to be her faith, family and friends. She prays her love of God has shown throughout this journey. He has surrounded her with peace and love.
A Celebration of Life was held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home in Murphy with the Rev. Derrick Palmer officiating.
Karey's favorite color was green, and the family requests those attending wear green casual clothing in honor of her.
Interment followed in Ranger Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Allen Gracey, Cameron Gracey, Justin Parrish, Alex Scurry, Darryl Brown and Mark Stalcup. Honorary pallbearers were David Israel and Larry Burgess. A reception will followed the graveside at Ranger Baptist Church Life Center.
The family received friends 4-5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
