Richard Ziegler Obituary

Richard Ziegler
The world is a little less colorful without Dick Ziegler, a man known for his integrity, generosity and fun. After an accomplished 89 years he passed on January 28th, 2025 under the kindest care at Midstate Hospital in Meriden,
Born Richard A. Ziegler right here in Connecticut where he was raised and lived most of his days, Dick was deliberate in creating a healthy, successful life and was committed to being the kind of person others could depend on. While getting his degree in Civil Engineering at UConn, he met and married Sally Towne (who survives him). Together they raised their three children: Terri Konkol, Kristi Rock, and Rick Ziegler. He was proud of his two grandchildren, Kristi's sons, Alex and Kit Harper and his great-grandchildren, Cara and Charlotte.
After years working at Cahn Engineers he rose to the position of Senior Vice President. Then, he lent his expertise to Cheshire's Planning & Zoning Committee until, with friends, he started his own Forensic engineering company he proudly named Spectrum Engineering! Dick loved to keep busy. When asked when he was going to retire, he'd reply, "Not until I fall off a ladder."
Dick Ziegler was a responsible man but most people will remember him as a person who enjoyed fun, and Dick's passion was sports. Despite being hampered by asthma as a child, he always made time to join in or watch a game. From kick ball on the street, to a Red Sox game on the radio, to basketball at college, baseball in the Army, softball with Cheshire's town league, bowling with his son, racquet ball with co-workers, golf with friends, or finally rooting for the UConn games from his armchair, Dick was both a team player and an enthusiastic fan.
A service to honor and celebrate Dick Ziegler's life will be held in Nelson Hall at Elim Park Place, 150 Cook Hill Road in Cheshire, CT at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 8th.
In lieu of flowers , the family would appreciate contributions to the Parkinson's Foundation https://www.parkinson.org or consider dropping off cereal and peanut butter to your local food bank in his name.
"Above us, outlined against the brilliant sky, dragons crowded every available perching space on the Rim. And the sun made a gold of every one of them." - Anne McCaffrey.
