Robert Stone Obituary
Robert Stone
10/2/1940 - 02/20/2024
Robert Bowditch Stone, 83, of Naples, FL, passed away on Feb. 20, 2024.
Robert (Bob) was born on Oct. 2, 1940, to Louise and Richard Stone in Boston, MA. He attended King School in Stamford, CT and studied finance at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA.
In 1965, Bob married the love of his life, Catherine (Cathy) Milton. The couple spent the early years of their marriage in Massachusetts, before moving to Cheshire, CT where they raised their two daughters and resided for 40 years.
Bob spent most of his professional career in the wholesale tabletop industry. He retired from Portmerion USA in 2010 where he served as CFO for over 30 years. After their retirement, Bob and Cathy traveled the world with friends and Bob's cherished Chi Phi brothers and wives. In 2016, they moved to Wyndermere Country Club in Naples, FL.
Bob was a proud "dad" and "grandpa" who loved to brag about his children and grandchildren's academic and athletic accomplishments. He was an avid sports fan and found the most joy in watching his children and grandchildren compete.
Bob was known for his sharp and witty sense of humor. He was also strong-willed and stubborn at times, qualities that made him incredibly strong, courageous, and resilient, especially through the most difficult times including his 16-year battle with cancer. When his time came, he carried himself with strength, dignity, and a fierce love for his family and those who went before him.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Catherine; his daughter, Eleanor (Stone) Race and her husband Michael; his brother, Jonathan Stone and his wife Vida; his sister-in-law, Eileen Milton; his son-in-law, Nicholas Grasso; his five grandchildren, Cameron Race (22), Nicholas Grasso (20), Caitlyn Race (19), Robert Grasso (18) and Nolan Race (16); and his eleven nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Louise (Magill) and Richard Stone; his in-laws, Elizabeth (O'Connor) and Charles Milton; his sister Patricia (Stone) Burns; his sister-in-law, Barbara (Milton) Brumbaugh; and his daughter, Jennifer (Stone) Grasso.
Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life in honor of Bob on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Wyndermere Country Club.
