I worked for Lily and Allan as a mother's helper many years ago. I loved you all. I lost touch with them so long ago. Dear Lily and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I would like to reconnect and catch up on the years somehow. Alan was such a good man. He was like a father to me. My phone number is 906-370-6265, if you would like to talk. I had a dream about you guys a few nights ago, which made me want to look you up. I would like to know how the children and you are. You formed my life in so many ways. I want you to know that. My sympathies to everyone. Love, Mary (Wilks) Baril

Dr. Alan Kanter was a kind and caring physician. I work at NCH and visited his office once because he asked me to tell him more about counseling patients to stop smoking. This alone, tells you how much he cared about his patients. When my husband needed a PCP, I sent him to Dr. Kanter. My husband really liked him as a PCP and as a kind person, and was sad when he went on leave and he couldn't see him for his next visit. I have thought about him often over the months, wondering why he didn't come back from leave, what was wrong. I have hoped I would never find an obituary, but I was thinking about him again today and looked. What a loss to his family, this good man... I am so sorry for your loss. His legacy goes on in what he showed me and others, on how to be a good person and a caring physician, how to make a difference in the lives of others.

My condolences on Alan's death. We were friends many years ago at Michael Reese, when I was a writer in the public relations office and he was valiantly working to extend dialysis to all patients who needed it.
He was a very noble gentleman.
May his memory be for a blessing.

Dear Kantor family, I worked with Alan at Michael Reese Hospital. Such an innovative and caring doctor, I learned a great deal from him---plus he had a wonderfulsense of humor and a basic niceness, My condolences. His good works will remain. Sincerely, Mike Ellman (a retired rheumatologist formerly from Reese and the U of Chicago),

Lily and family.
We just got off the phone with Bud and Lois and heard that you lost Alan. I've always considered him as my Uncle Alan. from Palm Springs vacations when Ben and I were teens, my short time at Northwestern, thru the many years of visits that felt like coming home to your house at Tamarisk. He was so interested in life. in our lives. Understanding the world around us and making a difference. I loved his dry humor. Denise and I remembered our connection with you both in Israel years ago when he had to make it back to the hotel to meet you for the ballet that evening. When we asked what ballet, he smiled and said why the shalom bayit ballet of course.
All our love and best wishes to you and all the family. Hope to make it to PS this winter to catch up.

Dear Aunt Lily, Ben & Melinda, Joel, Susie & Rich, Dan & Suzanne:
I will always remember Uncle Alan as full of life and energy, passionate about whatever mattered to him, and always the first to have whatever gadget was on the cutting edge of technology at the moment. (remember the Beta Max?)
I have a Brody/Kanter family picture on the wall over my desk, you are all in my heart.
Love,
Deb

My heartfelt condolences to all of you at this difficult time. He was such a vital, huge force in all of your lives, and to many in Chicago, for many years. I'll always remember that 'twinkle' in his eyes. My thoughts are of Uncle Joe, Arnie, Normy (my Dad!)...and all the great years of laughter growing up. Sending love and support to all of you....

An amazing individual and physician, Dr. Kanter simply lit up the lives of all who he came in contact with each day. His wit, brilliance, humanity and gentle spirit will be missed. To his awesome family, we were all lucky to know him but you knew him best...cherish that fact. Bruce, Jeanne and A.J. Marcus
