I wish to extend sympathy to the family of Dr. Ruggie. I met Dr. Ruggie as graduate nurse in the 60's and worked with him in many areas of Lutheran General Hospital until 1995. I will always remember his compassion for his patients, his respect toward the nursing staff, and his knowledge of medicine. I truly enjoyed working with him and making a difference for the people he cared for.

God bless his family and friends.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. Ruggie. I met Dr. Ruggie when I was a staff nurse at Lutheran General Hospital in the 60's. He was such a wonderful, caring physician greatly admired by staff and his patients. He later became my husband Walter's and my physician until we moved west in 1976. We missed him so much when we left. We did stop to see him on return visits and he was always glad to see us.

May your memories comfort you in the days ahead.

Uncle Al (and Aunt Bernie) will truly be missed. Sorry I could not attend the services But my prayers and thoughts were with each of you. What would the Schaefer's have done in the past without Uncle Al? God bless you all.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. Ruggie. I first met Dr. Ruggie when I was a staff nurse on 4 West at Lutheran General in the 1970's. He was always so kind and considerate and provided excellent care for all his patients. He was often accompanied by his nurse Diane. Those who knew him,as I did for almost 30 years, will remember how soft-spoken and kind and gentle he was. They will also remember his upbeat spirit and strength and enthusiasm for life. I know he was well loved and will be missed by many. His spirit survives in those who loved him and we trust his next journey will be as wonderful as the first. Bon Voyage Dr. Ruggie....you were the best and it was a pleasure to know you.

My deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved father. My first job after graduating from St.Luke's Hospital School of Nursing was at Illinois Masonic Hospital where I met Dr. Ruggie and his partner, Dr.Franz. He immediately noticed my distinctive nurse's cap and we became good friends. (I believe your mother was also a St.Luke's grad.) Though the years have gone by and we lost touch, I will always remember him as a gentleman and great doctor.

May he rest in peace.

Your Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather was a man of extreme kindness and generosity. He was a good friend to my cousin, Dolores Rapp and her family. I met your Father through Dolores as I was her caregiver and companion through her last years as she suffered from scleroderma. It was my pleasure to hear Dolores tell stories of your Father and her extended family (the Overtons and Donald families) and their life-long relationships. I surely hope he wasn't ill and didn't suffer in his last days on this earth. May God bless you all and may you all feel His peace as you remember your Father in the days to come.

Most sincerely,

Susan Kotrba

Dear Cathy and Diane, I have never met your father but knowing his daughters gives me insight into what he must have been. A wonderful father who helped make you both the women you are today. Love Peg Cooper
