I always admired her spirit and commitment to Chicago´s children (as well as "ours"). She continued to work because of love and commitment. Alice was a model to our students and to our faculty and to me. She is sorely missed.

I never met Alice but I felt I knew her through her sister, Marilyn, who was a big part of my life over 50 years ago. I was able to speak with Sharon recently but I failed to get her number. My sincere condolences to the family.

I met Alice in the early '70's when I was hired into the CPS Head Start Program. She was a life saver for me when I was sent on an 'over two night field trip' to a camp with my two sessions of (40) 4 year olds. (I was placed in this class after all the preparation worshops and meetings were given to the other teachers at the other schools) I was short 10 parent volunteers when one of the
assistants decided that she wasn't going to go and walked off the bus with those 10. When we arrived at the camp and I got off the bus with the one assistant and nine parents..and those 40 4 year olds...Alice saw the situation for what it was and came over and introduced herself with two other teachers and asked if they could help. She arranged for me to have a couple of parents from other schools (who had had this experience before) to help me find our cabins take the children and and my assistant to the Dining Hall for lunch...quickly explain schedules and all the etcs. All in all the three days two nights went by with not a glitch....Thanks to Alice!!! After a few years I left this School and CPS only to retune in the '80's for a new program which started mid year and once again ....there was Alice ..this time as an Administrator. Her open/inclusiveness was once again 'there' and available to all. She was an amazingly bright person and it was an honor to have known her. She will be missed by many!

It is with great sadness that I write this memory olf a dear friend and mentor. I met Alice when I started teaching in 1969 through our dear friend Roger Carlson. We quickly became friends and someone who was very supportive of a new teacher. I will truly miss her kindness, friendship and support. She was a friend to many and loved by all who knew her.
