Alvin Douglas Obituary

Alvin Charles Douglas, 68, of Buena Vista, formerly of Chicago, IL ''crossed the bar'' Wednesday, May 29, 2002. ''And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark...I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crost the bar''. Alfred Lord Tennyson. He was born in Chicago, IL on Nov. 16, 1933 to Adine Eda Douglas, currently of Perris, CA and the late Leo C. Douglas. Alvin received his Bachelors of Philosophy from Northwestern University. After retiring he resided in Buena Vista where he was Treasurer and volunteer for the Rockbridge Area Hospice. His service to Hospice work extended over nine years. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Eileen Edinger Douglas; his daughter Michelle Douglas Hall and her husband Peter of Darlington, England; his daughter Lisa Douglas Saunders and her husband Scott of Baltimore, MD; his brother Leo Douglas Sr. of Chicago Heights, IL; his sister Inez Douglas Clayton and her husband Larry of Hazel Crest, IL; his niece Sharon Douglas-Chaiken and her husband David of New York, NY; his nephew Leo Douglas Jr. of Chicago, IL; and his niece Lynn Washington Cushmeer of Hazel Crest, IL. Loving husband, caring parent, loyal friend, he will be missed by all. It was Alvin's wish that he be cremated and that there be no final services. If you care to remember him in a meaningful way memorial tributes may be made to the Rockbridge Area Hospice and The American Cancer Society. Alvin's passion was sailing, and he will take his final sail on Lake Michigan. Reynolds Funeral Service of Waynesboro, VA is in charge of arrangements.
