Obituary for Ann G. Sullivan (February 14, 1931 - December 8, 2020)
Beloved Wife of Raphael Paul (Ray) Sullivan (1920 - 2011) and Mother of Mark (Linda Wilson), Frank (Kathleen Duffy), Christine (James Duca), and Laura (Leonard Zazycki). Ann Gilmore Sullivan was born to eternal life on December 8, 2020 of Covid-19 at the Moorings of Arlington Heights, where she had been a resident since 2009.
Ann was born and raised in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago, the eldest of 4 children of Sabina Mulroy Gilmore and John Gilmore. She graduated from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa and was working as a medical technologist when she met, and later married, Ray on January 9, 1954. In 1956, they moved to Elmhurst, Illinois. There, she taught art history in the public school system and joined the League of Women Voters which became a lifelong passion resulting in several leadership positions. She resumed her science education in 1972 and obtained a medical technologist internship at St Anne's hospital. She went on to a master's degree from University of Illinois at Chicago, taught immunology at Augustana Hospital and worked at the UIC VA Hospital. She moved with Ray to Kerrville, Texas in 1985 where she continued her work as a medical technologist at the VA Hospital and continued to volunteer with the League of Women Voters, St. Vincent de Paul and Notre Dame Catholic Church. Ann was elected to two terms on the Kerrville City Council. In 2009, she and Ray moved to the Moorings in Arlington Heights to be nearer to their family in the Chicago area. Ann is survived by her sister, Sabina Siem (San Jose, CA) four children, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and cousins Martha Curry, RSCJ, and Jack Mulroy. Ann was predeceased by her sister, Hettie Hoggren, and brother, John Gilmore. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a devoted and kind mother who endeared herself to all who met her. She was smart, tenacious and open-minded, always inspiring everyone to be their best self.
