Aris Mitchell Obituary

Aris G. Mitchell - Brought to the world March 3, 1967.

Aris G. Mitchell, has left his earthly bonds, but his mark on the world remains. Aris Mitchell was a tremendously beautiful soul and most dedicated father. Driven by his love for his son, Aris had a zest for life that was unrivaled. He absolutely lived for his son; the two were inseparable and Aris loved exposing him to things and events that would enrich his son's life every day. From the park to the symphony, James happily accompanied Aris on their father son outings.

Five months before his passing, Aris was diagnosed with a subacute subdural hematoma in his brain and was immediately hospitalized for Neurosurgery, tragically he never recovered. If he were here today, he would tell you not to be saddened by his loss, that he is in a better place and to celebrate his life. He had a solid family foundation, raised Greek Orthodox, by his parents George and Angela Mitchell, his grandmother Mary Makris, his aunt Irene Makris, his aunt Georgia Makris, and his uncle James Makris.

Aris revered his Greek Orthodox faith. The time he spent at Loyola Academy and then matriculating to Loyola University solidified his Jesuit Ideology. Aris took solace in attending Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral where his son continues to serve as an altar boy.

In his own words, Aris was an "Enthusiastic Piano Player" that loved to sit and play scores of music for hours on end. Aris' diverse musical talents ranged from Chopin to Frank Sinatra and earned him the prestigious Russell Wood Scholarship.

Aris was a Chicagoan and being an avid long-distance runner, nothing made him happier than covering thousands of miles of lakefront…cementing his love for the city and all its beauty. You could find him smiling while he took on the day one mile at a time.

Aris was truly a gentleman and an impeccable dresser. He loved sporting a bow tie and no one pulled it off as cleanly as he did. He passed down his good taste in clothes to his son James, dressing him in suits just like Dad from an early age. You can see his influence in how well James carries himself today and that is a testament to his love.

Aris was extremely gifted with numbers and applying this gift to finance earned him a Bachelors' Degree in Economics, and an MBA in Finance from The University of Chicago Graduate School.

Aris was an academic at heart and valued leadership in the classroom. His passion for developing these characteristics in himself and others drove him to coordinate a leadership exploration and development program for alumni.

Aris grew up in the family business and enjoyed working at the renowned Artists' Cafe on Michigan Ave. Aris loved the cafe, engaging with the customers, and enjoying meals with his son,

Aris is survived not only in memory, but in the heart and soul of his beloved son James Mitchell, his sister Maria, his aunt Irene Makris, his brother in-law Bill Tsourapas, his nephew Peter Tsourapas and last, but certainly not least in Aris' heart, his Godson Preston Bokos. Aris will always be thought of with love by all his relatives…as well as many, many close friends.

Rev. Fr. Stamatios G. Sfikas from the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral officiated the funeral and burial services.

I remember him, a goal driven young man would take the time to ask about your day or let you know your doing a good job. Although l worked for his family business, like the rest of the family I was treated like family. You are truly missed and though your gone too soon we will keep you alive in our hearts.

Physically gone forever but NEVER will Aris be forgotten!
He had so much personality,a creative mind and loved passionately. I shall miss the late night calls from my dear friend. My heart grieves for James and Maria and Aunt Irene.

My heart felt condolences go out to the family on this untimely and tragic loss of Aris. I worked at the restaurant many years ago and became very fond of Angela and Irene and of course Aris. Such a close knit family. You will all be in my prayers.

For this wonderful family, that I admire and love, my thoughts and prayers are with each of you. James, Maria, Irene, Peter, and Bill. It saddens me to hear this, a young man, a father, gone from this earth, he will truly be missed. To James, you have a strong and loving family, hold onto them. They will get you through this, for they have helped me get through a few rough times. Remember that all those experiences and teachings from your father will help guide you to your upcoming manhood. Hold on to your memories, they are precious and a way of still being close to them, when physical contact is no longer. Aris it was a pleasure to have known you. How I would love to go back to those good times at the Artist, but this is now and your an Angel watching over all those you love. When the times comes, hope to see!

With admiration and love,
Dorsina Pagan
