Thomas W. "Tom" Murphy

Thomas "Tom" W. Murphy, 78, of Antioch, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at Condell Medical Center. Tom was born in Evanston, Illinois on October 19, 1947, to William B. and Mildred (Reddy) Murphy. He graduated from Loyola Academy, Class of 1965, Xavier University, Class of 1969 and DePaul University College of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1972. On September 15, 1973, he married his soulmate, Roberta Fruin. Together they shared over five decades of love, partnership, and unwavering commitment.

Tom devoted his career to the practice of law as a respected trial attorney. Known for his strong analytical mind, persuasive communication, and deep understanding of the rules of evidence, he supported numerous firms throughout his career, concluding with Fireman's Fund before retiring in 2009. Outside the courtroom, Tom found his greatest joy on the water, boating with family and friends on the Chain O'Lakes, and on the golf course embracing both the challenge and camaraderie of the game. With Roberta by his side, the two traveled extensively and split their time between their home in Antioch and their cherished residence in Sun City West, Arizona. The greatest joy in Tom's retirement was watching his grandsons play hockey and his granddaughter play volleyball. He was their proudest cheerleader.

Tom treasured lifelong friendships that began at St. Margaret Mary Grade School in Chicago-bonds that endured for over 60 years. In the final weeks of his life, he was blessed beyond measure to be surrounded by those dear friends, sharing laughter, memories, and stories. His best friend since third grade, Paul Murphy, visited him daily, offering steadfast love and support. He was also comforted by the presence of his 90-year-old sister, who traveled from Michigan to be by his side. His legacy lives on in the cheers he gave, the wisdom he shared, and the love that will continue through his grandchildren.

Survived by his loving wife Roberta; his children, Timothy (Austin, Tx), Anne (Elmwood Park, IL), Daniel (Lombard, IL), William (McHenry, IL) Murphy; his grandchildren, Will Lyons, Patrick and Fiona Murphy; sisters, Jean (the late Edward) Stoppani, Kathleen Murphy; brother-in-law, Michael McKeever; many nieces and nephews; grand-pups, Hank, Sadeek, and Lucy; plus numerous friends.

Proceeded by his parents, Bill and Mildred Murphy; sisters, Penny (the late Al) Landauer, Susan McKeever.
