Mrs. Margaret Murphy, 90, of
Waycross, Georgia, departed this life peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 10, 1935, in
Waycross, Georgia, Margaret was the cherished daughter of John and Isabella Troupe. A lifelong resident of Waycross, she built a life rooted in faith, family, education, and service to her community.
Margaret was a devoted and faithful wife to her beloved husband, Ronald Murphy, sharing 53 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in December 2011. Together, they raised three beautiful children: Reginald Murphy, who preceded her in death in August of 2020, Rhonda Griffin and Gwendolyn Mitchell. Margaret was preceded in death by siblings John H. Troup, Jr., Samuel Troup, Dewitt Troup, James McDaniels and is survived by Jean Troup Robinson and Marshall Troup, who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.
Education was both her calling and her passion. Margaret earned her Bachelor's degree in Education from Albany State University in 1958 and later obtained her Master's degree from Fort Valley State University in 1972. She went on to serve as a highly revered and respected educator in the Ware County School System for 35 years. Throughout her distinguished career, she received numerous awards and accolades, touching countless lives before retiring in 1987. Her students and colleagues remember her not only for her excellence in teaching, but for her unwavering encouragement, wisdom, and grace.
Margaret was a faithful and active member of First Antioch Baptist Church in
Waycross, Georgia, a church deeply rooted in her family's history, as her father was a founding member. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She blessed her church and community with her generous spirit, her kindness, and her unforgettable, angelic voice. She was especially fondly remembered for singing "Ave Maria" alongside her daughters - moments that will forever echo in the hearts of those who heard her.
Margaret lived a robust and meaningful life hallmarked by love of family, professional achievement, and steadfast community service. She carried herself with dignity and compassion, leaving a legacy of strength, faith, and devotion.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Rhonda and Gwendolyn; her siblings, Jean Robinson and Marshall Troup; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, cousins, former students, colleagues, and dear friends.
Margaret Murphy's life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a gift that will continue to guide all who knew her.
Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 22,2026, at First Antioch Missionary Baptist Church at 2:00 PM, 615 Knight Ave. Interment will follow at the Oakland Cemetery, 2410 Alice St. in
Waycross, Georgia.
