ARTHUR W. STEWART

Arthur W. Stewart, 89, passed away Thursday, June 30 at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle. Beloved uncle of Steven B. Weil (Shari) and Nicholas A. Weil (sons of his sister Dolores "Sunny" and Harold Weil); brother of the late Clarence "Red" Stewart, Jr.; grandfather of Reyna (Brian) Borg; great uncle of Steffanie, Matthew, Heidi and Josh Weil; and Tara and Justin Weil; dear friend of Nancy (Jeff) Blaha. Mr. Stewart was born in Chicago, IL to Ellapearl and Clarence Stewart. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in 1942, and rose to the rank of Sgt. Major with 33 years in the military. Mr. Stewart was a "career" Marine having served during WWII with the VMS Squadron 245 at Midway, Macon, Gilbert and Marshall Islands in the Pacific, he then served with the 9th combat Engineers, Okinawa; he was then sent to Wanson, Korea. He served two tours in Vietnam, both at DaNang and ChuLai. Accommodations include the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/ Palms; Vietnam Service Medal with 4 stars; Navy commendations medal for combat V with the Marine Attack Squadron 331. He will be laid to rest at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL Friday, July 22, 2011 at 1 p.m. with full military Honors. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
