August Thomas Obituary
August E. Thomas, Jr. (79), died peacefully in his sleep on October 15, 2015 after more than a decade-long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born on Christmas Eve 1935, he was a longtime resident of Roseland, Riverdale and Palos Park. After graduating from Fenger High School in 1953, he served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1955-1958 before working as a machinist for Sherwin Williams and the Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. A dedicated athlete and lifelong member of the American Turners, Augie was well known to many throughout the country as a fierce competitor in multiple sports. He is survived by his son, Keith, daughter-in-law Kathryn, grandchildren Elena and Jenna; his two sisters Janet Breunig and Elinor Bader; and countless nieces and nephews. August was predeceased by his sisters Betty Ekstrom, Margurite Strahl, Charlene Beringer and brother Robert Thomas. Funeral services will be privately held with a memorial at a later date.
