Bernie revolutionized the field of psychiatry. I cannot think of any other M.D. who challenged the status quo by questioning the fundamental structures of how to treat schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders. He was one of the forefathers of progressive medicine.
Bernie, I will miss our conversations. You will live on through your publications. Rest assured, other M.D.'s who practice psychiatry shall be transformed. and enlightened by your contributions to the field of psychiatry.
May you be granted everlasting tranquility as you enter the eternal kingdom of Yahweh.

Bernie, your presence in this world was a precious gift ... a gift to be embraced, treasured, and celebrated. It was a gift not only to Phyllis, but also to Mark, Robert, Cindy, and everyone whose life you touched. Your impact was felt far outside of your family, and it extended well beyond your friends, colleagues, students, and patients. Notably, you even touched the hearts and souls of people you never met, myself included. Indeed, your impact on my life has been immense. Thank you, Bernie. I'm especially grateful for your exemplary devotion to your family.
With prayers of peace for your beloved doll, Phyllis, and for the entire Shulman family.

Thank you Bernie for living and teaching ways to help us repair the world. Clarity for understanding life-giving theories; original thinking to develop these ideas; and modeling compassion with affirming joy in moving them forward.
