Bette Barron Obituary

Bette Barron, age 101, of La Grange Park, formerly of Western Springs and Indian Head Park. Beloved wife of the late John Clayton Barron. Loving mother of John Jr. (late Maureen), Most Rev. Robert Barron, and Patricia (John) Callahan. Devoted grandmother of Neala Barron, Bryna (Nelson) Worner, Drew Callahan, and Lauren Callahan. Cherished great-grandmother of Ella and Layne Worner. Except for five years spent in the Detroit area in 1960s, Bette was a proud, lifelong Chicagoan. She kept her renowned wit sharpened by completing crossword puzzles in the morning before watching her adored Cubs in the afternoon. She enjoyed decades of camaraderie provided by her bowling league and bridge club. And Bette spent many fulfilling years volunteering at both St. John of the Cross Parish in Western Springs and La Grange Memorial Hospital. Visitation 10am until time of 11am Mass on Thursday, August 10th at St. John of the Cross Church, 5005 Wolf Road, Western Springs. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Word on Fire Catholic Ministries. Arrangements entrusted to Hallowell & James Funeral Home, Countryside at 708-352-6500 or HJFunerals.com.

I remember taking care of Mrs Barron as a patient as a volunteer at LaGrange Hospital. She was a gracious lady. Many thanks to her for raising Bishop Barron who has done so much for Catholics. I love hearing him speak about his childhood. A faith filled household due to loving parents. May she rest in peace. Marilyn and Guy Vorsanger
