Dear Batemans,

Your family is entwined with so many of my childhood memories and the days spent swimming at Westmont with the boys being in the same age group & my sister coaching Becky. When my parents read me the articles from home, my heart grew sad for each of you, but also proud to see how Beannie went on to share his talent and the amazing impact he had already made by 32.

My deepest condolences to the Bateman family. Beany has always been such a fond part of my many grade school memories and as we got older I admired him more and more for his amazing talent, sense of humor, strong family bond, and his contageous smile. Your family is very much in my thoughts and prayers and my heart goes out to each of you during this time.

Bryan and Bay
I know that there are no words that I can share that will comfort you in the loss of Beanie. I am saddened for you and your family, and for the loss that kids at Hornet Swim Club must be feeling in losing their mentor and coach. I'll fondly remember the times we spent together at the Lion's Club pool (the old octagonal one with the wooden blocks and Sr Roca), learning to compete for ribbons for the Clarendon Hills town team, as well as reading about Beanie's success in erasing more than a few names on the record board at Hinsdale Central. I'm honored, flattered and grateful to this day to have been awarded the first scholarship in Beanie's Uncle Charlie's name, and and am only comforted knowing that he is now in God's care and with his uncle. Heaven's gain is our loss.

With sincerest condolences and prayers for your comfort,

George & Lucy Bufkin

Bryan and Bay,
I remember Beany loved my name because it reminded him of wee wee. What could be funnier? I hope that brings a smile to you on this tragic day. Big Bob will no doubt be ushering him around, Virginia and Mary are shuffling off to Buffalo. Life will be good again but until then, we love you guys, Chris and Becca, and hold you up.

The right words are hard to find at a time such as this, but we hope you can feel some comfort in knowing that others care deeply. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

It has been so many years since I have seen Beanie's face and yet his impact has stayed with me many years after finishing my highschool swimming career. He truly was a person with an enoromous heart who never had anything but an upbeat word to say or a bit of encouragment when you needed it most. My thoughts and prayers are with you all and hope his strength carries you thru.

Dear Bateman Family,

I remember so many happy times gathered around one pool or another watching all our kids swim, and Beanie amongst them breaking records and just being "Beanie." I am thinking of you all and sending healing thoughts and strength to you.
