Carolyn Lyon Obituary

Carolyn Roxie "Sis" Lyon, 91, a 59 year resident of Deerfield, passed away on Dec. 15, 2020. Sis grew up in Northern California, graduating with an Education degree from San Jose (CA) State, then married her college sweetheart Raymond C. Lyon. Sis & Ray started their family with Ray a USMC Captain during the Korean War, and later moved to Deerfield in 1960. After Ray's sudden death in 1967, Sis had to raise her 3 boys alone, doing so by working 2 jobs for the Deerfield Park District, as a Nursery School music teacher in the mornings, then as the Golf Course bartender in the afternoons. Sis also worked for the Blossom Shop Florist. Sis actively volunteered in Deerfield, including early stints as a local theater performer, Cub Scout den mother, PTA board member, and as one of Deerfield's first hockey moms, with all 3 boys playing for the Falcons Hockey Club. After Sis retired, she then volunteered with the Patty Turner Center "Hummers & Strummers" music group, and for St. Gregory's Episcopal Church at the Brentwood Retirement Home in Riverwoods. Sis was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, and will be honored by her family with an engraved brick going outside of Wrigley Field in 2022. Sis is survived by her sons, Robert T. & wife Janiece of Scottsdale, AZ, Timothy K. & wife Debra of Lake Tahoe, CA, and Clay C. of Libertyville, IL; 5 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren.
