Not sure what to say?

I wanted to write here as soon as I found out about it. Time got away from me and when I thought about it I couldn’t think of quite the right thing to say. I have talked to many family members and friends, all of us agreeing that this isn’t fair; my mom did so much good, she had so much more good to do, and she deserved so many more good things for herself. Just this weekend I was visiting a friend and she talked about all that is going on in her life including her return to school for social work. I made the off hand comment I make when ever anyone mentions social work, “my mom was a social worker.” It was what she said next that really got to me. “Yeah, I know that’s why I want to do it. I heard so many good things about her and I really want to help teenagers.” She had never been blessed with meeting my mom and yet my mother had helped her take one step closer to finding her path in life. At this moment I cried, not because I was sad, although I was, but because I realized that my mom is not done yet there is still good being done here because of her even though she is not here herself. My mother is my hero. I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for her and although I can not speak for then, I am sure there are a lot of people out there who would say the same thing.

My sister Cathy loved to serve others. This was evident starting in her childhood and throughout her adult life. As a young girl she was active in collecting for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She volunteered at a Muscular Dystrophy Camp and befriended the child she was a counselor for; visiting, babysitting and supporting him long after camp was over. She volunteered at a school for the severely handicapped. Her dream was to help children. When she battled her illness, her one concern and regret was not for herself, but that she could no longer help the children. This broke her heart. She put her heart into everything and she will forever be in our hearts. God bless you and keep you Cathy. Love, MJ

what a great loss you have suffered. in many ways i wish cathy and i had never met. but, since it was meant to be, i am honoured to have been able to have taken care of cathy. she was my hero. and i do not use the term lightly. her courage was contagious as was her smile. i will never forget her. nor would i ever want to try. i am so sorry for your immense loss. i also promised her i would not cry but that promise i cannot keep.

My most vivid memories of Mrs. Rigby are probably those involved with Erick and I going to visit her in the teacher's lunch room at the school during play practice to talk to our mom's and get money for soda. In the Fourth Grade, the teacher's lunch room was a sacred place, and I remember thinking that Mrs. Rigby must be a very special lady for being allowed in there. As I've gotten older, that feeling has been proven right again and again, be it with a simple smile or a visit to the hospital to check in on me when my appendix was removed. She was an amazing person and she will be missed.

Dear Sean and children,

I was shocked to read of the passing of Cathy in today's paper. We had corresponded for some time after her move to Chazy. We knew each other at JVS where I served as a psychologist.

May you know no further sorrows.

To The Family -- your loss is great and we hope your memories give you comfort. We did not have the pleasure and honor of knowing Cathy for a long time as did many. They are so lucky. Based on what she gave to the many that needed her professionally and personally it did not take long to realize that she was someone very special. Trully, her giving and loving nature was her gift. We will always have fond memories of Cathy. We wish peace for all.

The funniest thing Cathy ever said to me happened when we were on a furniture shopping trip for a recliner for Sean. I sat in the floor model in the store and she told me I looked like a toothpick in a marshmallow! I'll never forget what fun we had that day. Thanks for the memories, Cathy!

Cathy's was a quiet strength; a gentle hug; a soft smile and shining eyes. Cathy's touch on other lives was remarkably far- reaching for the short time we had her. I feel very grateful to have known her, and to call her 'friend' and 'sister.'

Loved and cherished as my wife, Cathy will be remembered for all that she did for her community and the children in it. She was devoted to her children as well as all others in Chazy. She has left me with many fond memories and I encourage you to share yours with me.
