Celia Decker

1926 - 2015

Celia Eunice (Vining) Decker, age 89, passed away April 11, 2015. Celia was born March 1, 1926 in Kankakee County, Illinois to Arthur and Eunice Vining. Celia grew up on her family farm in Manhattan and worked with her sister at the Ammunition & Ordinance Plant in Kankakee for many years. When she moved to Chicago to work for Victor Dana Corporation she met Otto Henry Decker Jr. who she married July 2, 1949. She and Otto lived in Hinsdale for most of their married life and were members of the Western Springs Christian Reformed Church. Celia loved to garden, preserve food, crochet and bake. In 1963 Celia lost her oldest son David Paul and her husband after 56 years of marriage. Her sister Nina and brothers Kenneth and Carl Vining also preceded her in death. Celia is survived by daughters Gail [Rick] Rasmussen, Cathylee [Steve] Arbaugh, Denise [John] Moller and son Bruce Decker. Celia was the proud grandmother of Rick [Heather] Rasmussen, Paul Rasmussen, Sheri-Ann [Pete] Pesce, Candice Rasmussen, Michael [Heather] Rasmussen, Jacquie [Claes] Norstron, Jamieleah [Adam] Carnahan, Jennifer Decker, Jill [Joseph] Scardina and Emma Moller. Celia also lived to meet her great-grandchildren; Tyler Rasmussen, Francesco Pesce, William and Kaylilynn Churney, James Norstron and step-great-grandson Gabriel Norstron. Her visitation will be Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Adolf Funeral Home, Ltd., 7000 S. Madison St., Willowbrook from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm with a concluding service at 1:00 pm.
