When Charlie would enter the room I always will remember how it made me feel - like a little kid. He was polite and proper when he entered - the way his parents taught him. However, you knew it was just a matter of time before he would be jumping (not running) wild. He was at Paw Paw Lake last summer and made his way to one of the guest rooms. There are 3 twin beds in the room. He just figured it would be the fun thing to do to jump from bed to bed. Before I decided to call Bryan or Vanessa I remember seeing this glow in his face. Why would I call his parents. He was having a blast. So, I asked him to keep doing it! I found myself having just as much fun while watching him. Later that day he figured it would be fun to jump off our boat, our pier, and our bean bags set. NO FEAR.
Last year at this time we had friends over for The Super Bowl. This time he had his eyes on the fireplace. At halftime of the game I remembered watching him dance with my oldest daughter, Gabriella. It brought so much joy and pride to see our kids having such fun together. We had plans to go to the lake every summer, go to Marquette basketball games and have him practice being a bodyguard for my daughters.
The best memory of Charlie that I will always cherish did not happen on weekends, parties, or trips. It would take place every other Monday night in Park Ridge at 109 S. Delphia. I would throw on sweat pants and bring Gabriella's pajamas. We would order pizza and let the kids stay up past bedtime (school night - so what) and have ice cream. When we would leave I remember how thankful I was to spend time with one of my best friends and our children. I know one thing - we were not cheated by the times we had together. That is for sure! Uncle Philly loves you, buddy.

I used to watch him at his daycare and I always looked forward to seeing him and playing with him, he was so much fun and he loved his pacifier! Someone once told me that the reason a young one dies early is because he had already perfected life, he did what takes most people many many years to achieve. It seems the only way it might possibly be justified. Charlie must have been that rare, that smart, and that special. It is all the more difficult to think that two weeks ago when he was seen in my office, only God knew of His plan for Charlie. So little time with us and yet the memories will last forever. Loss of any child is difficult, but particularly suddenly and without forewarning at such a young age is devastating to the parents, extended family and all who were touched by his short life.
