To say it's been a long 4 years without you is an understatement. Not a day goes by that you aren't remembered, missed or loved.
Your one liners, your laugh, your smile, your incredible heart...I could go on and on about all the things I miss about you.
Thank you for looking over me and keeping me safe and pushing me to be who I am today from above.
I will love you always...

You know there are people who come into your life and leave too soon leaving an impression on your heart that will never go away completely. That experience, that relationship and the effect it leaves us with can't be taken for granted. It's a gift I've taken with me for forging ahead through some difficulties, but the grace to keep going. Miss you dear friend, sending my best to your mom, dad, brother and his family. God speed.

I miss you Colin, and I'm missing everyone in your family. I never imagined a time I'd never see you again, but I've retired and I'm grateful for every day. I think of you always and pray your extraordinary aura never leaves us. Blessings to your family, Laura

You made such an impact on my career with your loyalty, encouragement, and individuality which you were never afraid to show to the world. It's a tremendous void with you gone, you coached me along as my skills became slower, weaker and remained one of my most valuable client and friend. You helped me with your general brilliance as you saw needed. If I couldn't understand my iPhone, computer, broken equipment at work, my clippers frying out, you just were so patient, helpful and kind. Dearest Pat and Dave, please take care of yourselves. I miss you all, I'm always thinking of your son, and so grateful for everything. Blessings and prayers for you all.

Colin David William Bain Utley was a happy individual who had an infectious smile that caused people to gravitate to him.

He was born on Thursday, October 21, 1982. He grew up in Schaumburg and attended Collins grade school, Frost Junior High School and Conant High School. After high school, he started his own business HQ Enterprises. Several years ago, he decided that he wanted to become a civil engineer and went back to pursue his Associates Degree at Harper College. He completed that this past semester and anticipated transferring to a 4 year university.

Colin had an affinity for mechanical objects and building. He had a great sense of spatial and visual awareness and could often see in his mind what others had to put down on paper. He was an expert craftsman and builder and had worked with many of his friends on building and remodeling projects. A self-taught computer whiz, he set up the electronics & computer systems for us (and others) and, more importantly, maintained them. He excelled at working on automobiles and especially enjoyed working on his BMW. And who could forget the numerous Legos that Colin had build and re-built, from the simplest Duplos to the Star Wars Star Destroyer and the Cinderalla castle.

Colin enjoyed many sports and particularly downhill skiing. He skied most of the major western resorts and even spent one winter at Vail/Beaver Creek/Breckenridge. Additionally, he enjoyed biking and participated in many sponsored 50 - 100 mile rides. For the past several summers (and planned for this coming summer), he organized a volleyball group that played at Twin Ponds in Palatine.

He loved his family and particularly his mom. He reveled in his nieces and nephews Cassidie, Cattibrie, Charlie and Coren. He enjoyed taking them to Noahs Ark at the Dells, the zoo, the aquarium or just hanging around and talking with them. Several years back, he and Shawn along with Cassidie and Cattibrie had a memorable road trip out west to many scenic destinations and Disneyland. And he had talked about going with Shawn and the boys to Disneyworld within the next year or two.

Colin had been engaged to Lauren Selker. He loved her and had hoped to raise a family and spend the rest of what was hoped to be a long life together.

Colin was a people person. He seemed to know almost everyone around Schaumburg a slight exaggeration but only slight. Almost everywhere we went, there was someone that he knew or knew him including one of his recent health care doctors. One of his favorite events was Bain Bash a party he started to coincide with Schaumburgs Septemberfest. It was so popular with his friends that it was a recurring success for the past 16 years.

He was always there to help be it as a designated driver, a ride to the airport, computer issues, help with mechanical issues on a car or many other things. He was never too busy just to sit and listen to someones problems and would do whatever he could. Colin was never be too busy to help a friend.

Colin, your mother and father have always loved you and will forever love you.

I had the pleasure of meeting Colin many years back in a professional capacity. Our shared love for hiking, biking and the great outdoors instantly created a connection that I can only describe as friendship.

My fondest memory of Colin is not one I experienced with him, but because of him. About one year ago, I had casually mentioned my upcoming trip to Colorado. Without hesitation, Colin sent me a list of trails to hike, restaurants to try and things to do. He insisted that I go to a trail called Devils Head just outside of Denver. It was one of the most magnificent places I have ever been; the views were absolutely breathtaking. Ill be visiting again this summer and intend on having a small memorial at the top of trail.

Rest In Peace, old friend. You will be sorely missed

A few years ago I was walking down the path to Septemberfest and Colin was coming back, stopped and made small talk with me. As he was leaving he gave me a hug. I still remember it because it made me feel so good. A gesture so small can leave a lasting impression on you. Colin was truly a good person and will be missed. RIP

Our only wedding picture together, he picked the dress.

Pat and Dave we are heartbroken and share the grief of losing a son. We would like to share the following message with the hope it brings you some comfort.
From heaven Colin was delivered to you. God said I'm trusting you both to nurture and love him. He's your little angel sent from me above. The body that was his vessel is what you'll
surely miss. His spirit I promise to never take away. Colin is back in heaven now. As you grieve and want to see him again, I promise Colin is waiting here for when you get to heaven.

I was extremely sad to hear about the passing of Colin. He introduced my sister and brother-in-law to one another so I'll forever be grateful to him. Colin was always nice to me. I remember him joining our post prom group every year at Twin Lakes in Palatine and being the grillmaster for our festivities. He was always happy to help; I'm glad I knew him.

Colin was a warm and kind soul, always out to have a good time. He was cheery and joyous. A friend to all, he could strike a conversation with anyone and did it often. He was adventurous in his travels, meticulous in his work and generous with his time and company. I can remember many of Saturdays playing street hockey, many nights chatting on the front porch, many get togethers in his basement, Galena, the Dells, Lowden, Bain Bash, college parties, holidays when he'd drop by for a bite, and ordinary days when he'd just waltz in our front door unannounced to hang with us. I even dragged him to two high school dances. He was a sport. :) He loved all and anything Christmas, which suits his cheery and festive nature (he would appreciate the use of the word 'festive' right there). He showed up to my rehearsal dinner in swim trunks - so Colin. He ushered my wedding and served as pall bearer for my grandma. Colin was always there for us. He was a pal you could count on. He was amazing at whatever he put his mind to, but most of all he was a good friend. I will truly miss him. Dave, Pat, Shaun and family - sending all of you my thoughts, prayers and love. Wishing you comfort and peace. Thank you for gracing us with Colin. He was light and love. He was a treasure. With love, Emily, Dave, Charlie, Jack, Henry & Olive

He was always able to get everyone together. We will be able to tell your stories forever my friend.

We had just moved in next door to the Utley's in 2001. One of my early outside projects was to move a big bush. The plant was heavy and Colin, seeing the struggle, came right over to lend a hand. Never mind the dirty hands. He didn't seem to care. He just wanted to help.

And that's the way he always was. Quick with a smile, always with something to say and always ready to help.

He lived outside of himself. Colin's focus was always on the world around him with a sense of other's needs.

He passed too soon. We will miss his helping hand and his good cheer. I'd say rest in peace but I'm sure he's not resting having already found some kind of heavenly project.
