Daniel Heagy Obituary

Daniel W. Heagy, IV, age 69, of Bluffton, SC died Sunday, January 10, 2016 at his home. Dan was respected and-maybe more important-loved by almost every one of the literally hundreds of people he worked with in a long career at Leo Burnett Company, one of the world's leading advertising agencies. In a career that encompassed the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, Dan, first as a copywriter, then as a creative director, then as an executive creative director, crafted brilliant, highly-awarded advertising for an array of clients including Kellogg's cereals, RCA color TV, Miller Lite beer, Oldsmobile, Hewlett-Packard, and many others. He brought his unique sensitivity, special human insight, and wit to every project he worked on, creating some of the most enjoyable Pillsbury Doughboy commercials of all time. Dan made people laugh-the people who knew him, and millions who didn't know him. Mr. Heagy was born on July 8, 1946 in Annapolis, MD, the son of the late Daniel W. Heagy, III and Katherine T. Bowen Heagy. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Sharon "Sherry" Huff Heagy; sister, Donna Toth; and sister-in-law, Darcy Greenberg Heagy. He is survived by his sister, Catherine Hurt (James) of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother, David H. Heagy of Newport Coast, CA; nephews, Damon T. Clotworthy of Baltimore, MD, Daniel M. Clotworthy (Theresa) of Rillton, PA, and Todd Werder of Naples, FL; nieces, Jill Schmitt of New Windsor, IL and Marci Schwalm; sisters-in-law, Betty Werder of Abingdon, IL and Linda Huff of Evergreen Park, IL; and also great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place at a later date in Chicago, IL. Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton is assisting the family. www.saulsfh.com

we were ex-burnetters, tho a few years apart. discovering we knew a number of the same people was fun for both of us. neighbors here in graue mill and dog lovers, dan quickly became a great friend. he was loved here and will be missed.

As one of Dan's neighbors, I would like Dan's family to know how much we will miss Dan. It was a delight to watch him walking Joni and Marji. I enjoyed our chats out in front of my unit---me abandoning the gardening to pet the terriers and he patiently untangling his rambunctious charges.

Dan brought a sharp intellect, quick wit and deep reservoir of patience to every project he tackled. He smiled, he laughed, he joked. And then, he came through with brilliant solutions. If I had to create an all-star team of guys who did great work, and guys who were great to work with, Dan Heagy is at the top of the list.

Remembering Dan as a good friend over many years at Burnett. Last time I saw him was at a Mexican Restaurant in Naperville. He shouted out my name so we stopped and talked for a bit. You know, it always hurts a bit when someone passes on from the old creative teams. Miss you, Dan!
