Daniel Drake Morrill, died April 23. Dan grew up on the East Coast and graduated from Cornell University. In Chicago, from the sixties on, he was a freelance photographer and later taught photography and aesthetics at the American Academy of Art. In recent years he had turned to philosophy, poetry and book clubs. Always a nature enthusiast, he was very concerned with the wilderness and environmental affairs. Literally hundreds of friends and loved ones will miss him; he was truly one of a kind.

Dan, you were the first teacher that made me like to learn. You had an amazing eye for photography. I wish I had made more of an effort after school to keep in touch. You'll never be forgotten by me. I've uploaded this photo, because this is what yo u taught me. I look at things like this because of you and your teaching.

Dan was the most enlightened spirit I've ever met and because of his shared knowledge I've been a photographer for 33 years. I'm so thankful that I had the chance to visit him last December and talk for several hour. Dan's spirit will be with me forever...Robert Ferrone

When thinking about how much Dan will be missed at our book club, I realized our good fortune to have known him at all. The many whose paths intersected with Dan's are the better for it.

Dan,
Our paths crossed briefly at Lou Ann Burkhardt's "Tree Studio" Art Salon's.
You were a storehouse of knowledge with the most fascinating and interesting take on things. I couldn't always keep up with your language flights of fancy. But I did know it was from a good place.
I hope you are flying high with the birds you loved so much and are at peace. It was my pleasure to have known you, if only briefly.
Most Fondly...Lee Ciaccio
