Deborah Hadley Obituary

Deborah Spivey Hadley, age 52, died September 24 at 11:51 p.m. at Carolinas Medical Center-Main in Charlotte. Debbie was born February 5, 1959 in Troy, NC and grew up in the small town of Star, NC. She was the daughter of Beth Kearns and the late Vance Spivey. Debbie graduated from East Montgomery High School, 1977, and Gardner Webb University, 1991, with a B.A. in Elementary Education. For many years, she worked in the textile industry becoming VP of Production for ADS Inc. in Rockingham, NC. She also worked both as customer service manager and outside salesperson for ColorAd Packaging in Monroe, NC. Most recently Debbie was employed for the last five years with the City of Monroe working at the Operations Center in customer service for the electrical and gas departments. An accomplished potter, she was trained in Seagrove, N.C. near her home in Star and sold her pottery across N.C. at town/city craft festivals. Debbie, while quiet and reserved, loved people and believed each person as a child of God deserved respect and dignity. The love of the Lord dwelled within her in all that she said and did. Her acts of compassion were given most often one-on-one whether it was to help raise her sisters, caring for her Granny, being devoted to a friend in need, or serving as a wise counselor and constant support to her pastor husband. Debbie's life was spent as a compassionate listener who valued putting others before herself. Her great passion became serving Christ through the many ministries of Central United Methodist Church, Monroe. Angel Food Ministry, LifeTree Café, Rock The Block, Children's Consignment Sale, Vacation Bible School, Trunk-r-Treat, confirmand mentoring, the Lost Sheep Sunday School Class and her beloved, "Disciple Chicks" were areas she "gave herself away" for her Lord. Indeed, heaven has now found the angel that it was missing for fifty-two years! Debbie's funeral will be at Central United Methodist Church, Wednesday, September 28, 2011, with visitation from 1:00 p.m.-2:45p.m. in Central Hall and the worship service to follow in the sanctuary at 3:00 p.m. Debbie is survived by her husband, Reverend Britt Hadley of Indian Trail, N.C; mother, Beth Kearns of Star, NC.; sister, Angie Davis and husband Rodney and their children Jessica, Jeremy, and Rachel of Bear Creek, NC; sister, Cindy Davis and husband Lee of Star; stepsons: Jeff Hadley and wife Karmen and their children, Cole, Olivia, and Julia Grace of Wesley Chapel, NC and Neil and wife Marie and children Mason and Becca of Indian Trail, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Central United Methodist Church, 801 S. Hayne St., Monroe, NC 28112. Monies will be used for the externally focused ministries of the church. Online condolences may be made to www.gordonfuneralservice.com. Gordon Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for the Hadley family.

Britt, Pat and I have loved you for a long time, and we feel the weight of the loss of your Debbie. I have retired from the ministry twice already, and yet I would be lost without the love of my life. We have found during our 52 years together that God is always near, especially in our weakest moments. In many ways you are one of our "sons in the faith," and we will continue to embrace you with our love and prayers.
