Dennis Harrison Obituary

Dennis Harrison passed away January 8, 2022 at the age of 69 after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 10, 1952, the son of Hortense and James Harrison of Chicago. His father was a Chicago police officer. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in English and began his professional career as a teacher and football coach at Marist High School. He later joined his family's grocery business as the General Manager of Savway Foods in Highland Park then became an owner of Lakeside Foods in Winnetka. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Nancy (Thornton) Harrison of Fountain Hills, Arizona, his sisters Mary Smith Carter and Kathleen Peck and brother, Jim Harrison. His sister, Terri Geraghty, preceded him in death. He is the uncle of many nieces and nephews, a large extended family and a multitude of friends. He loved his family and was loyal to all his friends, many of whose treasured friendships began at St. Juliana's grade school in Chicago. He loved Chicago sports, but his favorite teams were the Cubs and (what he often referred to as) the "Boo Boo Bears." He will be missed by all who loved him. A memorial service will take place later this year in Chicago. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Andre House (www.andrehouse.org) 213 South 11th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85007.
