I was Derrick's 7th/8th grade teacher. He was a good student and a terrific young man. I especially remember his beautiful smile. My fondest memory is his dancing w/ Erica at Daley Plaza and lifting her above his head like in Dirty Dancing. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I remember Derrick he was really great me and my cousin vanessa would all hang out on 59th and sacramento and laugh and all have fun i am gonna miss him like crazy
