DOMINICK BUFALINO Obituary

Dominick John Bufalino, age 86, of Norwood Park Township, passed away Jan. 13, 2012, loving husband of Camelia, nee Lo Presti; devoted father of Vincent (Joan), Angelo (Patricia) and Marietta Bufalino; loving grandfather of Kathleen (Chris) McCarney, Dominick (Shams), Michael (Hillary), Joseph (Caylen), Thomas, Kevin, Domenica and Donald and greatgrandfather of Joseph. Dominick was born in Vizzini, Sicily on Oct. 24, 1925 and was raised by Vincent and Marie Antoinette Bufalino and grew up with his late brother John and sister Josephina (Cirnigliaro). Dominick was educated at the University of Catania where he earned his Doctor of Juris Prudence with distinction. He along with his late brother John then immigrated to Chicago in 1950, where he met his wife Camelia. Dominick's professional life began at Pacific Wine Company where he quickly rose to Vice President until 1979. He continued his career at Continental Distributing Company until his retirement in 1992. In addition to his professional responsibilities, Dominick was also deeply passionate about education as was evident in his appointment by the Governor of Illinois as trustee of the Board of Governors Universities of Illinois. He served for more than 20 years, starting with his appointment in 1974. He also served as Vice-Chairperson from 1978-1980 and Chairperson from 1980-1984. Dominick spent his life immersed in his passions, which included fishing, hunting, farming and most of all his ever-growing family. His stories about life in Italy, the wine business, family tradition and fishing trips will always keep his memory alive. Funeral Monday, Jan. 16, beginning at 9 a.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge proceeding to St. Eugene Church, Mass 10 a.m. Entombment St. Joseph Cemetery. Dominick's life will be celebrated with a visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674. Dear Bufalino Family,
With great shock I just learned of Dominick's passing. He and all of you are in our prayers. His legacy as Patriarch is amplified in each of you caring, brilliant and dedicated family members. I have known Angelo for many years and Vincent as well. You gentlemen are among the finest I know. Your father's indelible signature is in your very fabric. God Bless you Angelo, Vincent, Marietta, Mrs. Bufalino and the rest of the family. He has gone fishing with God and will show you all the good spots when you someday join him.
Best,

From the moment I met Mr Bufalino over forty years ago til the last time I saw him this holiday, he was one of the kindest, most compassionate men I knew with always a spirited twinkle in his eye. He truly lived the definition of patriarch: gentle and wise leader. His spirit will live on in his sons, wife and daughter, nieces, nephews and beloved grand and greatgrandchildren and all of us who had the honor of being touched and changed by his wit and knowledge. Our hearts are with you this weekend who mourn his loss.

For Camille and all of the Bufalino family, their extended family and friends, ourselves included:
We grieve Dominick's departure from this earth. He brightened our days. His love and companionship, his loyalty to family and friends, his fun-loving gift for life among us...our lives are richer for having known and loved him. We pray that the angels carry him gently through time 'til we can see him again.

To the Bufalino family,

We are saddened by the news of Dominick's (aka endearingly as Mr. Buf, Grandpa Bufalino) passing. He was a tremendous man who has left a mark on all who knew him.
A generous friend, a master storyteller, a gifted advisor and a truly humble kind man who loved and treasured his family.
He will be deeply missed but always remembered. Our deepest sympathy to the entire family.

Love,
Annie, Joe, Jill, Kate and Rachel
