Memories and Condolences
for EDWARD CHUMAN

Not sure what to say?

I remember you so clearly, Eddie. You were a gruff gentleman. Very cool.

All love,

I met Ed a long long time ago when I was a sound man for a band called "School Boys". Ed was the lighting man. We worked many shows around northeast IL. Eventually I was asked to play guitar in the band and we changed our name to "The Kind".

Ed didn't stay around. He went to The Vic/Clubland where I bumped into him again.

I know that he was Gorgeous George's sparring partner when he was younger. I saw his glossy wearing a cape.

So sad that we didn't hook up again.

One last thing, I never knew him as gruff or rude, he was just "cool" and real!

Ed was a cool dude...

Condolences to his family,
Stan Skora on behalf of The Kind

From promoters to wrestlers, Ed helped those who were overlooked or just needed a "break". He would always put his reputation on the line, if he thought it would help someone. He gave me advice all the time, both personally and professionally, in and out of the wrestling world.

He was a very entertaining character, putting smiles on everyone he came in contact with. (He will be "quoted" for years to come!) That was a great gift he gave us all.

He had a gruff exterior, but those who knew him well, knew a very caring and free spirited person. He definitely knew how to make me laugh, and remembering him brings a smile to my face.

He was a friend, a confidant, and business associate. I will cherish his memory forever.

My sympathies go out to your entire family. Ed was a good man, full of humor and wit. He helped me many times when I was confronted with the difficult decisions of an NWA Director. He was always the person I turned to for advice. I will miss him greatly.

Four years ago, I had the privilege of meeting Ed at an NWA Midwest TV taping. At our first meeting, I was somewhat taken aback by this surly, gruff, intimidating character. At first glance, Ed could seem a little rough around the edges.
When one gets past the exterior, one sees a warm, caring, loving soul. Ed was one of the most generous people I've ever known. He gave young hungry wrestlers opportunity. Awesome Kong is the foundation of the TNA Knockouts because of Ed.
His life was dedicated to serving his fellow man.
He loved the NWA, his friends, his Lord, and his family. I'm grateful to have known Ed and my life is better for him being in it.
Ed will be missed. Rest in Peace, friend.

Pam
Words cannot express the sorrow i feel for you and Jennifer now. Thoughts go through my head of memories & laughter shared with you and eddie that were priceless.Hard to believe going all the way back to 1979 seems like yesterday. I still remember when we were young pulling pranks and having fun. The Rock and Roll years were such a blast the kind of memeories that will always last. Thank you Eddie for being a part of my life and all the laughter and fun times. Rock on till i meet you on the other side. Peace out Brother!

My Dearest friend Ed,
I can not believe that you are gone from our sight. I have been thinking back at the years when Jen and Gianna were at winnebago school and the vision that will always stay in my mind is you driving Jen around town as she sat in the back seat with her head bobbing around. The pool party's at my Mom's... and when I finally got you to go swimming after a few Margarita's. Or the Hawiian Party at my house, and you standing at the gate giving everyone that entered a "Lei" as we drank Pina coladas. I actually can't remember which was more fun, the pre party, the party, or the after party, what a weekend we had. You would make me laugh every time I cut Pam's hair you would call her "Annette". Years later, when we all moved to get into the other school district, and how you and Gregg protested all the way. Later sharing stories about one broken appliance after another while we joked about the "Money Pits". After we were all settled you and Pam coming over with my favorite Salsa and chips and all the Margaritas we drank while talking and laughing till wee hours of the morning. The years that I cut your hair were the best. We laughed, we joked, we gossiped, and we smoked. I will miss those sponteneous cravings for La Hacienda with you. I could go on and on with our friendship through the years. My Dear Friend, I will cheerish those memories forever. We are forever blessed having known you. Until we meet again.
Love,
Gregg, Annette, Gianna, Jordan, Joseph, and Maggie Hockstein
Pam and Jen,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you now and always

"My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Chuman Family. I was a fan who enjoyed attending his NWA Midwest shows. Ed was always joking with me and made me and my friends felt welcomed at his shows. He was a great guy and he will be missed by many."

Ed Chuman was widely recognized, and rightly so, in the world of exhibition wrestling.

However, there was another Ed Chuman, president of "Ultimate Stage" lighting and effects company, that some of us knew from a different sector of that amazing business we call "show", the always delightful world of music.

There were several local bands that Eddie (along with myself and a few other folks) made to appear as the world-class stars that they all aspired to be, despite low budgets and often extremely challenging technical circumstances. As long as I knew him, Eddie Chuman lived by the motto that "the show MUST go on".

Rick "Elvis" Saucedo and the "Boyzz from Illinois" were just two of the local "legends" that owed much of their relative success in the late 70's to the level of visual showmanship that Ed Chuman originally developed during his own tenure as an early wrestling icon of the type portrayed by Mickey Rourke in the recent film titled "The Wrestler".

Ed's huge interest in the music biz was obviously book-ended by wrestling, which of course naturally led to Ed's involvement with Reggie Parks Belts and NWA, as mentioned above, .

Not to be forgotten were all those CRAZY years when we worked together at the Vic Theater (aka: "Clubland"). Ed's skills touched many lives there.

And then there were those two years of our lives that we dedicated to the incredible revival production of the musical "Hair", which Ed always referred to as a profound milestone in his long and diverse career of keeping people entertained.

Keep an eye on the sunset, because "Rock and Roll Heaven" just got a new lighting director.

My condolences to the Chuman family. Was not priviledged to meet Ed, but knew his parents, Elmer and Vivian. Interesting to read that he was a wrestling advocate, we learn too much about family when it is too late. My Dad was the son of Charles Chuman, also Charles Chuman and I am Charlene Chuman Ryan. Does any family member know about Georgianna's family? I remember her as such a beautiful woman. Again thoughts and prayers to the family.

Thanks for the great shows and memories, Ed. You may never know many of your fans, but we'll never forget your warm disposition and your kind consideration in the oft baron, desolate emotional drudges of pro wrestling. You loved and you believed it in, and we in you. Thanks for all you did for pro wrestling.

For those who didn't know him, Ed could come off as being gruff and rude; a real old codger. But for those who really knew the guy, they knew that beneath his eccentricity and tough exterior was a person who not only told it like it was, but really who had a good heart. Ed was genuine in every sence of the word and not afraid to tell you what was on his mind and if he disagreed with you, he'd tell you -- in spades! Ed, your humor was wonderful and your tongue was sharp; you were truly one of a kind. I will always remember you as you frequently described yourself when someone would ask how you are: "Fat and Sassy!" Let the eternal light guide you forward. Rest in peace my friend.
