Dear Sandy, Justin, and Jeremy,
I had the pleasure of both having Ed as a teacher when I was younger, then later as a colleague. As I am sure you know, he was one of those teachers you never forget. His calm and kind manner mixed with a fantastic and unique sense of humor made every day an adventure in his class. When I started working at HMS a few years ago, he was so welcoming and supportive, even though we were not in the same grade. I will remember him as a man who always had time to share a story about family, and cared deeply for his students and fellow teachers.
I will miss him so much, but will make sure I take a little bit of Ed's wisdom along with me when I teach.

To the Doebert Family,
As a colleague of Ed I saw his constant dedication to both his family and students. For the students who did not go on the Washington DC trip each year he created a special experience at school. During lunch, much of his conversation was about Justin and Jeremy. I know he was a father first, setting aside evenings and weekends to be with his sons as much as possible.
My condolences to you. Ed will be missed greatly.

Dear Sandy and Family,
I just heard of Ed's passing I worked with Ed at HMS. We shared chaperon duties on the Florida Marine Ecology trip for a number of years. I remember how tuned in to the students Ed was. He could tell if a student was having a problem. He was a great asset to the trip.
I also remember the day he came to my scuba shop to purchase masks for the boys. They were very young at the time and he was very attentive to them. He so enjoyed snorkeling in Florida and wanted his sons to be able to experience the same. He was such a proud dad.
I am sorry I did not attend the service. I did not find out about his passing until this evening. I will keep your family in my prayers.

Dear Doebert family ~
I am truly sorry to hear of Ed's,"Eddie's" passing. I went to Jr. High and High School with him. He had an infectious smile and persnality that radiated to all who knew him. As I read the entries from his students and colleagues I see the highest of compliments an educator can achieve, those of love and admiration! His legacy and love for education will clearly live on through the many lives he has touched throughout his teaching career! My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Mr. Doebert was my third and fourth grade teacher at Monroe. After all my years of schooling, he is still, by far, the best teacher I ever had. He inspired me to learn and have confidence in myself. I will never forget him showing up to school driving a metallic blue dune buggy. Thanks to him, I had a pet crayfish named "Slappy." He was a great man, and I am sorry for your loss.

Dear Doebert Family - I am very sorry for your loss. I truly enjoyed Ed, although we always called him Eddie, throughout Junior High and High School. He was an incredibly funny and genuine guy, whose personality came through in all he did. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

To the entire Doebert Family-
I was so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. Ed was one of the great guys from band--fun to be around and always a gentleman. I last spoke with him at a Switzerland trip reunion. He was so excited and proud of his teaching position in Hinsdale. In reading the memories shared, I can tell he was loved and that his life was full. I will always think of "Eddie" as the lean, curly long haired guy on guitar. My thoughts are with you.

Dear Sandy and Family,
So sorry to hear of Ed's passing. Along with many others, I played in a band with Ed in High School. He was a talented musician, and a fun guy to be around. We had lost touch over the years, but I've thought of him often. My thoughts are with you.

Dear Sandy and boys,
I was priviledged to begin my teaching career with Ed at Monroe School. I was his Teacher Aide and loved every minute I spent in his classroom. Ed, at that time, had long hair, a beard, and a fabulous smile. His classroom was his life, filled with living creatures, and a positive atmosphere for learning. This was also the year he met and married Sandy in Hawaii with Audrey Stiles as his "best man"! Ed not only taught his students, but all of us. He opened our eyes to nature and the environment. I went on the first of several Outdoor Educations at George Williams Camous in Williams Bay, Wisconsin in the wintertime. What fun we had chewing peppermint lifesavers outside at night to see the sparks in our mouth. No one ever complaind as we hiked around in the snow with Ed leading us!We were all involved in learning and loved every minute ! Ed impacted every life he came in contact with and we all have our special memories of him. I am truly deeply saddened at our loss, and am praying for you his family. He will be missed tremendously, as he was one of a kind.

Dear Doebert Family,
I have such awesome memories of the man I knew as Mr. Doebert. He was my 4th and 5th grade teacher at Monroe School- it must have been at the very beginning of his teaching career.
Just thinking of him the past day or so has brought up so many wonderful memories of his playful and caring personality.
I remember how he dressed as Bunnicula for Halloween because that was the book we had been reading. We had a giant crayfish pond, each little guy identified by a dab of our mom's nail polish. I remember outdoor science field trips and "getting to know" our trees (literally closing our eyes and smelling, touching, and even tasting our trees!) He knew all the girls were in love with unicorns (1985!!!), so he had unicorn calendars, pencils, and posters. When we were reviewing homophones, he made up a funny little dance and song called "Potato is the Beet"- he would get silly during recess and join us in dancing around and singing the song! And occasionally, when the weather was nice, he would drive to school in a crazy looking sparkly blue dune buggy!!!
While I had many wonderful and talented teachers, Mr. Doebert has remained the most memorable. He was kind, charismatic, creative, and fun-loving. I know I can speak for many of my classmates and say that they feel the same way.
My condolences to your family on the loss of a dear father, husband, son and brother. He will be missed, fondly remembered and never forgotten.

To the Doebert Family,
My condolences for your loss and the loss of a great educator. Mr. Doebert was my daughter's middle school science teacher. He was very responsible for her interest in science, both from classroom work and for his work with the Marine Biology trip program. She took that interest and followed it through high school, college and into her master's degree where she has specialized in environmenal science and policy. Teachers many times do not know where their influence takes their students. In her case, his influence took her to her career. My thanks will always be with him.

Dear Doebert family,
I was so incredibly saddened to hear about your loss. "Mr. Doebert" was not only my eigth grade science teacher and advisor but by far my favorite teacher I had during my time at HMS.
He truly was committed to his students, not only in encouraging their enthusiasm for science but also by enabling their success in and out of the classroom.
His way of teaching had such an impact on his students because he made it fun to learn, something that is so rarely perfected. I will never forget his lessons on diffusion, our air car experiments, and the famous atom project. Not to mention '60's day where he was jamming on his guitar.
Please accept my condolences and know that he will always be remembered as an amazing teacher and man.
Sincerely,

Dear Doebert Family,
I am so very sorry to hear of Ed's passing. Although I have only known Ed for three years I have many fond memories of him. Ed was always there for both students and colleagues. He always had a smile, story, or joke to share to turn your day around. He often shared stories of your family, demonstrating his love for you all.
Ed was a kind and caring man who was fair to all. He wanted the very best for his students, as was evident in his teaching and the way he communicated with his students. He brought the science classroom to life and his students loved him.
When I think of Ed I will remember his silly jokes, his ties, the time he came to my rescue on Curriculum Night, his gentle and patient manner, his way with kids, his smile, and a truly wonderful person who will be truly missed by the HMS community. My thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathies go out to you at this very difficult time.
Sincerely,

Dear Sandy and Family,
When I heard of Ed's passing from Senora (Ed's favorite Senora and mentor when he first started at HMS), I was in shock.
Time is precious. Ed always took the time to say, "Hello" to everybody when at HMS.
Ed reminds us to always say,"I love you and give a hug" to all that we hold, dear in our hearts.
He always wanted to as Michael Jackson said," Make This World A Better Place".
God Bless,

I am so sorry to hear about Ed. We worked at the Aurora Public Library many years ago. I remember Ed with the great personality and we had lots of laughs .. probably too much for the library! He was a great guy and a friend to all who worked at the APL. It sounds like he grew up to continue to be a great husband, father and teacher.

Dear Doebert Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathies. I knew Ed only briefly, but it was enough to know what a genuinely good guy he was. Even though I am a sometimes custodian at HMS, Ed always took a few minutes to talk to me about science, an interest of mine. I always made it a point to clean his room first, hoping Ed would be there. He was kind, and I will miss him.
May your family draw comfort from each other, from friends, and from colleagues.

Dear Doebert Family,
I was so saddened to hear about the sudden news of Ed's passing. I worked with Ed as the School Nurse at HMS for a few years, but knew him well as my daughter was in his science class. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Sandy and Family,
Ed Doebert was a most special, kind, and gentle person. He loved his students and school, and was a genius at turning kids onto the world of Science. Ed was proud husband and father, and loved to share stories of his boys with his colleagues.
And was an unselfish guy! There are so many examples of occasions when Ed would lend a hand to help out a colleague, whether it was in action or by simply lending a sympathetic ear.
In every school there are individuals who exemplify what a master teacher should be - someone who can effectively balance profession and family, control and energy, knowledge and passion, curriculum and magic. Ed was all of this and more. He will be sorely missed.
With sincerest sympathy.

Dear Mrs. Doebert-
My name is Matt Luchette and I was in Mr. Doebert's 8th grade science
class at HMS 6 years ago. I was shocked and extremely sad when I
heard recently that he has passed away. I wanted to write and let you
know how grateful I am to have taken his class and to have had him as
a teacher.
Mr. Doebert always had an incredible energy about him every day and
knew how to make science come alive for his students. I'll never
forget the famous "Atom Model" project he put on each year or how he
explained the physics of roller coasters during our end of the year
trip to Six Flags. What I'll remember most, though, was his deep
concern for each and every student in our class.
His care, compassion, and deep enthusiasm for his work are all things
I'll never forget, and HMS has truly lost one of their best.
With deepest sympathy,
Matt Luchette

I was shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of one of my favorite teachers. I was blessed to have him for 8th grade Science and I will always remember what a treat it was to be in his class. While his jokes may not have always been up to par, his wisdom and personality were top notch. He made it his mission to get to know each of his students personally and even made an effort to make it to our basketball games :) He definitely made an impact on myself and thousands of other students. He will be sorely missed.

Dear Sandy and family,
During the years that I knew Ed at HMS, I found him to be respectful of both student and colleague, willing to both listen and share stories about family, and overall having a gentle, caring attitude. He loved teaching, loved working with students, really wanted all of them to be successful in his classroom and students knew this.
Ed was always a person I could go to when I needed a calming influence or just a place to escape the stresses of our profession. I loved hearing him talk about his sons and the pride he had when he did.
HIs humor and dedication will be missed, and I will miss sharing a laugh with him when we would stop and chat in the halls of HMS.

Dear Sandy, Justin, and Jeremy,
My heart hurts along with yours. Ed was a wonderful person, colleague, and teacher/mentor to so many students including my own two sons. As Ben and Matt progressed through science classes in high school and then in college, they on many occasions expressed the same sentiment. "We already learned this in Mr. Doebert's class!" I always shared their words with him and he always responded with his warm smile and heartfelt thanks.
WE are the ones who thank him for his ability to reach those he taught, leaving a bit of himself with each life he touched. He was indeed a special teacher and I am proud to have worked with him and call him my friend.
Please know he will be missed, but always fondly remembered. His influence on so many will live on. I extend to you my deepest sympathy.

When I met Ed, I saw a white-shirted, fancy-tied science teacher, but I also felt an almost immediate and (yet) relaxed connection. When my first grandson was born 16 years ago - Ed had the audacity (despite my obvious youth) to call me as "Grandma Sue", fondly and forever afterword that became my nickname. He referred to me as "Grandma" and I referred to him (fondly) as special "Ed."
I will miss him.

Dear Sandy and Family,
Words cannot express how I feel about Ed. I was lucky enough to have been paired with Ed as my mentor teacher as I began teaching at HMS 3 years ago. Ed guided me and prepared me for the many difficulties that teachers face throughout the day. We spent many afternoons after school sitting and talking about teaching. When walking into his classroom, it was evident that his students adored him and his funny jokes!
Our conversations always shifted to our families and outside interests. He spoke so highly of his wife and boys at home. He put his heart and soul into everything that was important to him, this included his family, friends, students and profession. He is, without a doubt, the nicest and most caring man I have ever met. I will always remember Ed and our time together. My thoughts and prayers will be with the Doebert family during this very difficult time.

Dear Sandy and family,
You are in my thoughts and prayers in your time of grief. Ed was a caring teacher who helped all students learn about and come to appreciate science. Although I only worked directly with him for one year, the empathy, support, and encouragement that he provided to the at risk students that I taught was key to their success in science. For some of these students, it was their first taste of success. They really felt that Mr. Doebert cared about them as individuals and as students. He brought a smile to all those he encountered. He will be greatly missed by his HMS family!! Peace be with you all.

Dear Sandy and family,
I keep you all in my prayers as you deal with this heartbreaking loss. I only worked with Ed for two years, but he was such a joy to know. He could take a trying situation and turn it around until we were laughing about it. He brought daily laughter into the lunchroom as he shared hilarious stories with his colleagues. The kids respected him so much and enjoyed his classes. This is a tremendous loss to education as well as to all our lives. Try to take comfort in the fact that so many children's lives were changed for the better in having Ed pass through them. May God's love bring you strength and may the caring of all your friends and family lighten your load.
