Edward Filar

Edward M. Filar, 81, passed away on March 13, 2015 in Scottsdale, Arizona, surrounded by his loving family. Edward was a devoted and dedicated family man. He was loved and admired by all who knew him. His work ethic, kindness, humility, honesty, integrity, and joyfulness made him a role model and inspiration to all who met him. He was the cherished husband of Nancy, nee Thielmann, who was his best friend and wife for over 57 years. He was the loving father of Susan (Richard Jacques) Filar, Barbara (Edward) Wozniakowski, and Janet (Benjamin) Bristol. He was the proud grandfather of Michelle and Robert Jacques, William and David Tran, Kimberly (Brian) Krall, and Benjamin, Matthew, and Jonathan Bristol. He was the treasured brother of Richard (Bobbie) Filar. Edward served proudly for ten years as a Sergeant in the National Guard. He graduated from Northwestern University and taught evening classes at Metropolitan Business College. He became the Division Controller at Stimsonite and retired in 1991 after working there for 36 years. Edward was a parishioner of St. Thomas of Villanova Church since 1974. His Christian principles were evident in how he lived his life. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone and always had a positive attitude. He enjoyed many sports, especially tennis. Edward was well known for his irrepressible sense of humor, which his family and friends will always remember. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities. A memorial visitation will be held at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home in Palatine on Friday, May 8th from 3:00 to 9:00. Family and friends will gather at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, 1201 E. Anderson Drive in Palatine for a Mass on Saturday, May 9th at 10:00.
