I always enjoyed it when Aunt Edith and Uncle Ed would stop into Columbus, Ohio to visit my father (Waldo Finnell > Edith's brother) and my mother Lee. Aunt Edith and Uncle Ed always seemed happily married, very compatible and like good friends. They had a solidness and lasting quality, stability in their love for each other, from what I witnessed. Uncle Ed will be missed and remembered for his gentleness, good humor, warmth/kindness, good listener and possessed a common sense/practical approach to life. He was a trooper all the way till the end, from what I observed. He will be greatly missed. I enjoyed and was grateful for a couple phone conversations with him prior to his passing.

Dear Cousins:
I have a number of fond memories of Uncle Ed, some in the past and others in more recent times, like when he came to Arlington and I was able to meet him at Iwo Jima Memorial when he was on his trip that honored World War II veterans. My sisters and I were watching some of our family movies of our childhood over the Christmas holidays and we saw both Uncle Ed and Aunt Edith in these films when we had visited Grandfather and Grandmother Finnell's house in Chicago. I have also enjoyed seeing Uncle Ed several times in Chicago when I visited in more recent years and it was instructive to learn more about his role involving supplies and logistics in World War II and overall philosophy on life.
I feel very blessed to have known him and I wish to express my condolences on his passing.
Love,
Janine (first cousin to Edward, Ellen, and Joe Waytula)

May Uncle Ed live on in the memories of his family and loved ones. I remember his kind thoughtful personality, and I appreciate his dedicated service during WWII. I also am thankful he took movie pictures at my parent's wedding in 1952 which we treasure more and more as the years go by.

What I think I'll miss most about cousin Ed is the pride he had in being a Waytula. Family events were important to him. He was always at them and we always loved seeing him. What a charming, intelligent and caring gentleman he was (such a gentlemen). Thank you for giving us our family tree Ed. It means the world to all of us. I'll truly miss you.
I will be eternally grateful that I was able see him the day before he left this world for heaven and got the chance to tell him how important he was to us, hold his hand, kiss his forehead and tell him that I loved him.
