Memories and Condolences
for Gayle Dubowski

Not sure what to say?

May 31, 2014

“For here I am creating new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be called to mind, neither will they come up into the heart." Isaiah 65:17. Comforting words to help us appreciate God's willingness to rectify our losses, allay our fears, and diminish evil acts of any kind here to come forever.

To lose someone in death at young age due to a unforeseen occurrence is never easy to understand or cope with such tragedies. I would like to give my most heartfelt condolences to the Dubowski family. The only bases for hope that tragedies such as this will never happen again is found in God's Word the Bible. The scripture at Isaiah 65:17 says:" For here I am creating new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be called to mind, neither will they come up into the heart."

Losing a loved one at such a young age is not easy. I extend my deepest condolences to the Dubowski family (Daniel 12: 2a).

To The Dubowski Family,
I'm so sorry for the loss of your daughter. I was in the same Cultural Anth. class. I was not blessed with knowing her as a friend. On Feb. 14 I lost the chance to know her. Not a day goes by that I don't think of that tragic day. You are all in my prayers.

To the Debowski family,
My name is Jessica Blair. I was a really good friend with Gayle since we were 5 or so. We went to school together and grew up together. until 3 yrs ago when i had to move a few hours away. I did not know she went to northern until at work just the other day, when I noticed her name. I am very sorry for your loss. Gayle and your family will be forever in my prayers.

Joe,

It has been so many years since we worked together at Electric Metering. I heard about this tragedy from others we worked with as I am now in Florida. You and your family are in my prayers as I know you will have the strength given to us by God to get through this horrible horrible thing. I offer a small prayer to you that I hope brings some comfort to you and your family.

Father, your Son declared "blessed"
all those who mourn, knowing that no-one can mourn
unless they love very much.
Bring courage and strength to those who now mourn
because they have loved greatly.
In your loving kindness bring them healing and inner peace,
and lead the one they mourn into your kingdom
of light, happiness, and peace. Amen.

Dubowski family...I am so sorry. You are all in my prayers. You are a good family and I know you love your children deeply. Your peace and gentleness came off in your kids and your demeanor. Growing up spiritually in the west region I watched people carefully to see God. God shines through you and your kids. I am so sorry you have to see the evil in the world. My heart is with you...

To the family of Gayle Dubowski,

In his speech on February 24th, Senator Durbin said, "As we move forward together, let's make room in our hearts for their dreams. In that way death will not be the victor, and their dreams will live on."

I was Gayle's English 105 teacher, and when I heard the terrible news, I looked to see if I still had any of Gayle's work in my files. In the conclusion of her final paper for the class, Gayle wrote the following: "...if you don't have humility, work hard, and have a heart to help others, you aren't going to make your dreams come true. In the same way as life doesn't live itself do people fulfill their dreams just by dreaming them."

These are such wise words from such a young woman. No words can express my sympathy adequately, but I want you to know that Gayle's cheery smile and effervescent approach to her studies and life left an indelible impression on me. I recognized her name the second that I heard it on the news, and her absence now, to me, is the most miserable part of this whole tradegy.

Gayle did more than dream her dreams; she lived them. And I know that her dreams will live on.

I am dreadfully sorry that your daughter was taken from you in this life, but please know that the lives of the people who knew her are enriched, and her spirit lives within us.

Family and friends of Gayle,
my heart aches for you. I've seen stories about her on TV; I only wish I had known this vibrant young lady. Our daughter graduated NIU in December and is already back at campus so she can attend the Memorial Service, as a visible sign of support for your family. Dear Mr.and Mrs.Dubowski
I am so sorry to hear about you daughter. As i read some comments it became clear that she had a love of Christ that only God fearing parents could have instilled in her heart. i hope that you can be comforted by the scripture found at John6:40 This is the will of my father that everyone that beholds the son and exercises faith in him should have everylasting life, and i will resurrect him at the last day. You and your family will be in my prayers.

As a former NIU student and a sister-in-Christ, I feel twice the hurt in losing Gayle. Although I never met her in person, we shared the same circle of friends and I have heard so much great things about her. Her love and passion for Christ is something that I will always admire. My heart goes out to the Dubowski family. Joe, Laurel and Ryan, may you find comfort in knowing that God has sent you a special guardian angel in Gayle.

Joe,

I just learned that Gayle was among the victims of last week's shooting. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to your whole family. I only met Gayle one time at an Interim company picnic; but even way back then she impressed me as a very special young lady.

I am sure that Christ is keeping her safe and sound until the time all of you can have a joyous family reunion.

God be with your whole family.

Joe,I just learned last night that Gayle was among the victims of last Thursday's shooting. I and my family want to send you and your family our deepest sympathies. The sky is filled with Angels
With puffy lacy wings
The remnants of God's beauty
With treasures they now bring

Each one of them a Guardian
That travels in the sky
To watch throughout eternity
Their parents from on high

Smiles that come from Angels
They fall like crystal rain
Eases earthly burdens
Lifting all life's pain

Halos so astounding
That glitter gold each day
Following their loved ones
In such a perfect way

Wings in gentle breezes
That fall from up above
Kissing every parent
With everlasting love

Angels soar through heaven
With everlasting light
Looking down from heaven
Saying their "goodnights"

Kissing all who loved them
So gently on the face
This life's tender mercy
Each parent can embrace

Wings and shiny halos
Travel from on high
Surrounding all their loved ones
They never say good-bye.

I am so very sorry for your loss.

Do not stand at my grave and cry.

Help From God

The Bible assures us: “Jehovah is near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” (Psalm 34:18)

“Throw your burden upon Jehovah himself, and he himself will sustain you.” (Psalm 55:22) If talking out your feelings with a sympathetic friend can help, how much more will pouring out your heart to “the God of all comfort” help you!—2 Corinthians 1:3.

The “Hearer of prayer” promises to give holy spirit to his servants who sincerely ask for it. (Psalm 65:2; Luke 11:13) God’s holy spirit, or active force, can equip you with “power beyond what is normal” to go from one day to the next. (2 Corinthians 4:7) God can help his faithful servants to endure any and every problem they may face.

With deep sympathy

Gayle was a quiet but amazingly nice person. I cant believe this happened. I grew up playing soccer with her and being coached by her father. I didnt know her mother or brother, but Mr dubowski taught me so much not just about soccer but how to be a decent person. He quoted something years ago to our team that ill always remember. I hope they will hold on to faith and know we are all thinking of gayle.

Dear Dubowski Family,

As a mother of a young man and daughter attending Junior College and Universitiy in the Fall, I can't even describe what you must be feeling of this horrible tragedy... As parents we are the protectors while out kids are around us. We send our kids to explore and learn so they can be successful in life, not knowing what's out there. (This has to stop, too many innocent people are being killed and hurt). In reading comments about those who knew your daughter, she was an amazing young lady. I pray that your pain would ease somehow, knowing that Gayle is with Our Lord in a better place...

Vaya con Dios Gayle...

To Gayle’s family, friends, loved ones & community:

Words cannot express the loss of a loved one. She did not deserve to have her life cut short, especially this way. There is no doubt in my mind that she will always be remembered. I hope her next life brings her the long life she was denied in this one.

I know nothing I can say will ease you pain or that no one can understand the agony & depth of your loss. I hope you can find some peace for yourselves when you're ready, knowing a part of her will always be with you & your memories of her.

I had the pleasure of teaching Gayle while a student at Glenbard North. I remember her quiet determination, warm smile, mild demeanor and compassion for her classmates. I remember seating her with other students in the class who were having difficulties because of her talent and strength in mathematics and her willingness to lend a helping hand. She was a treasure, a gem. Now, no longer a teacher, but rather a parent, a mother of two small children, I grieve for you. I cannot imagine your loss, and I pray that you can find the strength to carry on. My prayers are with you during this difficult time. God Bless you, today and always.

Another doubt, Another life
Taken by so much strife
Another tear solemnly shed
Waiting for retribution instead
Another star joins the sky
Another bluebird sings its goodbye
A peace descends upon the land
Upon the heavy lidded eyes of those who understand
Now the rain falls bittersweet
Now the sun will never be so bright
As it ushers the darkness out of the sky
But sill the rays pour down
Illuminating the path
That we all follow in this life
We can’t say where it goes
Only that it eventually leads
Out of the dark and into the light
The beginning of our everlasting life

We will keep your family in our prayers in the loss of your daughter. We share in your sadness but are comforted that she is with our Father in Heaven. God has taken one of His home and as the song we sing says "we'll understand it all by & by." May God give you comfort as only He can. From the Jacksonville Church & as friends of the Berndt's.
