George T. Mandon

GEORGE T. MANDON Portage, Indiana Formerly Gary (Glen Park), IN George T. Mandon, age 87 of Portage and formerly of Glen Park, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2009. He was President and longtime booster of the East Glen Park Little League, highlighted by managing the 1964 Indiana State Championship team. George was a World War II Marine Corps veteran and a member of Teamster Local #142 for over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sophie of 59 years in 2007 and sister, Sophie Sibich. He is survived by 4 children: Thomas (Sally) Mandon, Carmel, IN, James (Diane) Mandon of Hobart, Georgian (Donald) Hobbs of Indianapolis, IN and Robert (Jamie) Mandon of Hobart; 8 grandchildren: Keith Hobbs, Carrie (Tony) Blackwell, George Bennett (Addy) Mandon, Sophie (Joe) Featherston, Julia Mandon, Jessica Hobbs, Adam Mandon and Samuel Mandon; 4 great-grandchildren: George Niklaus, Kya Marie, Sophie Jean and Caroline Claire; 2 sisters, Irene (late Tony) Taneff and Carrie (late Dan) Ziza, both of Crown Point; and brother-in-law, Gordon Sibich. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 10 a.m. at SS. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison St., Merrillville, IN, Rev. Theodore Poteres and Rev. Christ Margellos officiating. Interment at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN. Friends and relatives may visit with the family on Friday, January 9, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart, IN.
