Ginni Clemmens Obituary

Ginni Clemmens, a legendary blues and folk singer/songwriter, tragically died in a car accident on Feb. 15, 2003 on the island of Maui. Born Virginia Clemmens on Feb. 28, 1936 in Evergreen Park, IL, Ginni first picked up the guitar when she was working with emotionally disturbed children. In addition to teaching voice, banjo and guitar at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, Ginni established her own recording label - Open Door Records. During her lifetime Ginni produced seven albums and was perhaps best known for her rendition of ''Wild Women Don't Get the Blues''. She is survived by a sister, Maxime Friday of Chicago; brother, Tim Friday of Rock Island, IL; two nieces; two nephews; and a grandniece. Services will be held March 2 at 3 p.m. at White Rocks, Paulueau Beach, Maui. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Maui Bridges (autistic children), P.O. Box 387, Puunene, Maui, HI 96781.

Dearest Max and Steph:

I am stunned with the news of Ginni's untimely death. My heart aches for all of you and for me too. Through the years she and I have kept in contact...It's hard to imagine I will never talk to her again. I will miss her sweet voice, her crazy ways, and her dear heart. "Shine on dear Ginni, soar with the eagles, you 'wild woman' you!, and peace be with your spirit for ever and ever.

Love, Patti (aka) Lucille P. Baldwin, a southern woman, and a good friend of Buelah Mae Hoffstetter.
