Gregory Vogler

Gregory J. Vogler (Greg), age 60, of Downers Grove, Illinois, formerly of Jasper, Indiana, passed away September 26, 2014. Beloved husband of 35 years to Maria Schuler-Vogler. Loving father of Nathan Vogler, Drew Vogler and Alex Vogler. Devoted son of the late Martin and Louise Vogler. Fond brother of Linda Giesler, Georgina Rowland, Rev. Ken Vogler, Carol Schmitt, Bill Vogler, Nancy Foerster, Judy Steiner, Kathy Whitten, Rich Vogler, Chris Harmon, and Tony Vogler. Greg was preceded in death by his brother Donald Vogler and a sister Mary Jane Cordon. Caring uncle of many nieces and nephews. Greg attended Jasper High School (Class of 1972) and was honored as an outstanding alumnus in 2014. Greg earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, with honors, from Purdue University in 1977, and earned his JD, with honors, from DePaul College of Law in 1984. In addition to serving on DePaul University Dean's Council and DePaul University's Intellectual Property Advisory Board, Greg received The Outstanding Service to DePaul University Award in 2007. In 1988, Greg co-founded McAndrews, Held & Malloy, where he specialized in patent, trade secret and trademark litigation. Greg had a very successful career as a patent litigator and had been named a "Leading Lawyer in IP Law" by the Leading Lawyers Network and had received the Chicago Top Lawyers Award, Illinois Top Lawyers Award, Illinois Super Lawyers Award, and National Leading Lawyers in IP Award. Greg's community service included serving as an elected commissioner in Downers Grove, as Chairman of the Downers Grove Heritage Festival, as Chairman of the Downers Grove Zoning Commission, and as Chairman of the Downers Grove High School Building Referendum and Library Addition Referendum. Greg also served on the Board of Directors of the local YMCA. Greg's special service to women's issues included serving on the Board of Directors for Downers Grove Care and Counseling Center, and as founder of Mary Jane's Hope, a foundation devoted to helping abused women and children. Greg's interests and hobbies over the years included serving as President and coach of the Downers Grove Nomads Youth Basketball Club, as President of the Downers Grove Roadrunners Youth Soccer Club, and as founder and coach of St. Mary's Grade School Cross-Country program. Visitation September 28, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 301-75th Street, Downers Grove. Entombment will be in Jasper, Indiana Greg's hometown.
