Herman Dahl Obituary
Herman E. Dahl born August 22, 1930 in Chicago to the late Elvira and Emanuel Dahl passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017. He went to Lane Technical High School and attended Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Chicago where he met his wife Nancy. He proudly served in the Marines in Korea and was an agent for New England Mutual Life Insurance. Herman was also active in various Swedish organizations and is a member of TREA Chapter 90 (The Retired Enlisted Association). Herman was the beloved husband of Nancy L. (nee Franzen) for 62 years. Loving father of Karen (Bob) Setterstrom, Nancy (Peter) Wenzel and Janet (Arthur) Douglas. Doting grandfather of 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Visitation Thursday, September 14, 2017, 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Friday, September 15, 2017, 9:00 a.m. until time of the Funeral Service, 10:30 a.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd. at Old Orchard Road, Skokie, IL 60077. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to TREA, Chapter 90, 415 S. Ann Street, Marengo, IL 60152 or Scandinavian Park, Inc. c/o Tom Cleveland, 35 W217 Route 31, South Elgin, IL 60177, please include on the memo line, (Vasa Park Pavilion Restoration Fund). I met Herman when I was a sophomore at Northwestern for a course in 1992. His wonderful laugh and storytelling was impressive and I was delighted and honor to be embraced by him and Nancy well beyond my class assignment and by his family and friends. I know his passing is a lose but his bright light shines on through his children, grandchildren and in all of our hearts. Blessing to the family.

Dear Dahl Family, my deepest condolences on Hermans's passing. I have great memories as a kid and an adult of Herman and times we spent together. I am very sorry I was not able to pay my respects in person. May God bless Herman and your entire family during this difficult time.

Nancy the light on the candle of Herm's life, but the memories will go on forever. He worked and enjoyed his heritage, and through it I have maintained mine. The memories are far to many to recall.....but.....will always remain. It was a joy to have both of you my friend and I offer sincere sympathy and my condolences. PEACE.

It was so like Herman to make his final salute on Scandinavian Day! As we passed the gates of VASA PARK on Sunday, Herman was there in spirit, with his Marines, giving a wave and a nod.
Oh so MANY wonderful memories we all have of Herman! Fun-loving Herman, the Marine, the drummer, the usher in church. Verdandi, Svenska Gillet, Ebenezer, VASA Park...the music, the dancing, the fun!
Herman will be missed, but the fond memories will live on!
