Ian Bruce Obituary

Ian Douglas Bruce, 58, born in Berwyn, IL, of Winfield, IL, February 21, 1947 to February 3, 2006, of complications from ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also knowm as Lou Gehrig's disease. He is survived by his wife Janice, nee Schuler; twin daughters Elizabeth and Margaret Bruce; son of Ann Rowan from Pompano Beach, FL and Burnett Bruce from Sister Bay, WI. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1969 and worked at Lucent Technologies for over twenty years as a software engineer. He enjoyed sailing, woodworking, photography, and gardening. He liked to challenge himself by solving problems and to figure out how things worked. He loved watching his daughters participate in sporting events and develop their creativity. His wish was that everyone finds happiness and freedom from suffering. A celebration of life service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, President and Geneva Road, Wheaton, Monday, February 6 at 7 p.m. Donations may be made to the Deer Park Buddhist Center, 4548 Schneider Drive, Oregon, Wisconsin 53575.

I never had the privilege of meeting Mr. Bruce myself, but I am honored to be one of Izzy and Maggie's teachers. Judging by the integrity displayed by his daughters,Mr. Bruce instilled strong values in his children. My prayers reach out to Mrs. Bruce and the girls. May God richly bless you.
