
Ivan D. Thunder, a resident of Grayslake, formerly of Berkeley, CA and Park Ridge, IL, passed away Friday afternoon, Oct. 29, 2010 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Ivan was born in Oakland, CA on Sept. 28, 1913 to the now late James and Gertrude Thunder. He graduated from Loyola Academy in Chicago in 1932 and from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1937. Ivan was a structural engineer, and belonged to the American Society of Engineers, the 133rd Naval Construction Batallion (the Seabees), and was an Iwo Jima veteran attached to the 4th Marine Division. He was a member of St. Gilbert Catholic Church in Grayslake and Mary, Seat of Wisdom in Park Ridge. Ivan was the loving father of Rosemary (James) Schwoebel of Georgetown, TX, Maureen (Dennis) Brebner of Lake Bluff, James (Ann Gerby) Thunder of McLean, VA, and Tom (Linda Craig) of Pingree Grove, IL, Anita (Richard) Rotchstein of Charlotte, NC, Diane (John) Schlosser of Milwaukee, WI, and Sheila (Gerard) Zygmunt of Grayslake; proud grandfather of 26 and great-grandfather of 15. Interment will be held on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, convening at the cemetery office at 10 a.m., and then to the committal chapel as a group.
