Jack Dillon Obituary

Spiegel Catalog Veteran Jack D. Dillon dies at age 88. Mr. Jack D. Dillon who rose through the venerable catalog retailer's ranks to become Vice President passed away Thursday in Palos Heights, IL. Jack began his career at Spiegel in 1949 and retired from the organization in 1988. During his tenure he held several crucial leadership positions in buying and soft lines product development. Spiegel was formerly one of the nation's largest and most famous direct marketing organizations. Mr. Dillon played an integral role in reinventing the company in the late 70s and early 80s. Jack's talents as both a visionary merchant and superb administrator of business strategies were highly regarded and heavily relied upon by the cataloger's former CEOs. Mr. Dillon is credited for his numerous contributions resulting in a distinguished career at the organization that spanned nearly four decades. Jack Dillon also served in the Army Air Force during World War II, surviving 29 in a B17 over France and Germany including the disastrous second Schweinfurt raid in which nearly 25% of bomber crews were lost. He was honored for his country with several air medals and the Purple Heart for wounds suffered over Saarbrucken,Germany. Jack Dillon remained an active member of the 305th "Can Do" Squadron's veterans until his passing on April 4th 2013. He is survived by his three sons and two grandchildren.
